• The Hoyas won their final out-of-conference game this past week, soundly beating #16 Memphis 86-69. The win puts the Hoyas at 11-1 heading into Big East play this Wednesday at Notre Dame.
• There were no upsets of any of the teams in the Top 10 teams in the rankings, with Georgetown and Missouri the only top ten teams to play a ranked opponent. Missouri beat #21 Illinois 75-64.
• The Hoyas in the NBA went 1-2 over the Christmas weekend, with Jeff Green the only Hoya victorious. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Denver on Christmas 114-106, with Jeff getting 12 points and six assists. Both the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons lost their games on Boxing Day, falling to Memphis and Chicago, respectively.
• In Turkey, Allen Iverson returned to the court after missing two weeks to lead Bestikas to a 24 point win over Pinar Karsiyaka, 89-65. Iverson had 20 points on 5-11 shooting in the game.

• The Hoyas only played one game this past week due to exams, and they came up victorious, defeating Loyola (MD) 99-75 on Saturday.
• There were no upsets of any of the Top 5 teams in the rankings, but #6 Kansas State lost to Florida, #7 Tennessee fell twice losing to Oakland and Charlotte, #8 Pittsburgh lost to those same Volunteers, and #9 Baylor were beaten by Gonzaga.
• DaJuan Summers saw his first action with the Detroit Pistons in over a month, earning seven minutes in their loss against the Clippers, and then playing nine minutes in the win over the Hornets last night. In the game against New Orleans, DaJuan scored eight points to go with a rebound and steal.
• In Turkey, Allen Iverson missed two games this weekend with an unspecified knee injury. Reports say he may be out ten days.

Georgetown came back from behind to beat the #9 Missouri Tigers in overtime last night, pushing their record to 7-0. But besides getting their first win against a ranked opponent, here are some other interesting facts that should cement the game into Hoya History.

• Austin Freeman, Jason Clark, and Chris Wright all reached the 20 point mark. This is only the second time under John Thompson III’s tenure that three players have scored 20 or more, the last being last year’s Duke game when it was Austin, Chris, and Greg Monroe scoring 20. The time before that was a Mike Sweetney, Kevin Braswell, and Wesley Wilson showing against Howard in ’01.
• Austin Freeman scored 31 points after scoring 32 against UNC Asheville. Last year, we showed you a list of 30-point performances up through the Harvard game, and it looks like we’ll have to update that list soon.

  Under Coach Thompson, there have been five games where a player has gone for 30, and now Austin is responsible for three of them.

  The last time a Hoya had back-to-back 30-point games was in February of 2003 when Mike Sweetney put up 38 in a double-overtime loss to Notre Dame and followed that up with 32 two days later against Syracuse.

  If you’re looking for the last time a Hoya put up 30 in back-to-back wins, you have to go all the way back to Allen Iverson‘s 37 against Villanova in the 1996 season finale and 38 against Miami in the Big East Tournament.

• Chris Wright earned his second career double-double dishing out 10 assists to go with his 21 points. He earned his first in Charleston when he had a career-high 12 assists against Coastal Carolina. Chris is averaging over seven assists a game so far this season.
• Jason Clark came up big in overtime scoring nine points on 3-3 from 3. That’s the most points any Hoya has scored in overtime under Coach Thompson III’s reign. The next best was DaJuan Summers with 8 against North Carolina in the East Regional Championship. Brandon Bowman also scored 8 in the overtime win against Norfolk State in Coach Thompson’s first season.
• The Hoyas went 18 for 18 from the free throw line on the night, which is the best in Georgetown’s recorded history – at least according to our friends at The Georgetown Basketball History Project. They go back to 1978 with free throw percentage stats, and the best on that list was 12-12 against American in December of 78.

  Edit: The Georgetown Media Guide confirms that 12-12 against American was the record.

• The Hoyas scored 111 points, which is the most under JTIII. The next best offensive performance was 110 against Radford at McDonough, the last victory for Georgetown at the on-campus arena.

• The Hoyas moved to 6-0 with a home win over UNC Asheville on Saturday in which Austin Freeman tied the school record for threes in a game with seven.
• Alonzo Mourning was named one of seven Hoyas who will be entered into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in February. The event, taking place in Leavey Center on Friday, February 25, will also include Michael Stahr, Kathryn Federici, Dean Lowry, James Kenny, Mark Marilley, and Andrew Hoffmann from various sports on the Hilltop.
• Five teams in the AP Top 10 lost their first game this week. Unranked Connecticut beat #2 Michigan State and #8 Kentucky. #4 Kansas State lost to top-ranked Duke, #7 Villanova fell to #24 Tennessee, and #10 Purdue were upset by unranked Richmond.
• In the NBA, Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers in overtime on Friday. Big Roy put up 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, while Jeff scored 15 and grabbed 14 boards in the hard-fought victory. Hibbert was tough to contain until Green switched to cover his old teammate in the 4th quarter and overtime.
• In Turkey, Allen Iverson earned his first victory in Europe with a 94-85 win over Trabzonspor. Allen scored 14 points, dished out 8 assists, and collected a steal in the W.
• And in the D-League, Patrick Ewing, Jr. helped the Reno Bighorns move to 4-0 with two victories over the Bakersfield Jam over the weekend. He collected 20 points and 9 rebounds in the first game, and managed 17 and 11 in the second.

Today, I got a chance to catch up with the old #10 to talk about this year’s team, former teammate Allen Iverson, and how Brendan’s been doing in the NASCAR world.

A true Hoya fanatic, his enthusiasm about Georgetown Basketball – and Georgetown athletics in general – is evident in just a few moments.

Here’s a look at what went down this past weekend:

• The Georgetown Hoyas won the third annuals Charleston Classic this weekend, defeating Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Wofford on Friday, and NC State last night. Chris Wright was named the tournament MVP and Jason Clark was also named to the All-Tournament team. The Hoyas are now 5-0 on the season and have a short Thanksgiving break, not playing again until Saturday when they take on UNC-Asheville at home.
• In the NBA, Jeff Green is still out with his ankle injury. He has missed seven out of the last eight games for the Thunder and is listed as day-to-day for tonight’s game against the Timberwolves.
• Over in Europe, Allen Iverson played his first game in the Turkish league, losing 74-67 to Fenerbahçe Ülker. AI only managed two points and is now 0-2 in play in Turkey. Earlier in the week, he played in the Eurocup, as Beşiktaş lost to KK Hemofarm Stada.
• The NBA D-League got underway this weekend, and Patrick Ewing, Jr. is indeed playing with the Reno Bighorns. They won their first two games -both against the Utah Flash – and Patrick led the team last night with 28 points to go with his 11 boards and 6 assists.
• The #10 Florida Gators were the first team ranked in the Top 10 to lose a game, falling to #5 Ohio State on Tuesday. The first Top 10 upsets, though, took place in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off where #8 North Carolina dropped two games, falling to Minnesota on Friday, and then losing to Vanderbilt in the 3rd place game. The Tar Heels’ next opponent – like the Hoyas – is UNC-Asheville.

• The Georgetown Hoyas opened their season with a road win against the CAA’s Old Dominion 62-59. They start their home season tonight with a game against Tulane at 7:00pm.
• After missing three games with a sprained ankle, Jeff Green returned to the starting lineup with the Oklahoma City Thunder yesterday. He left the game late in the third quarter ice his ankle and had this to say:
  

  It just got a little sore. It’s not something I want to try to push through,” said Green, Oklahoma City’s third-leading scorer. “It’s still early in the season. If it was the playoffs, yes. I don’t want to drive it to the point where I reaggravate it too much and then I’m out longer than I was before. I didn’t want to push it too much.

• Allen Iverson postponed his debut in Turkey saying he “did not feel ready.” So instead of playing his first game in a #4 jersey on Friday, he will most likely have his debut tomorrow.
• After being waived from the New York Knicks’ roster, Patrick Ewing Jr. headed to Nevada to attend training camp with the NBDL’s Reno Bighorns. There’s been no official word if he will be playing with them once their season starts this Saturday, but for what it’s worth, his picture in a Reno uniform has made it to the Bighorns homepage.
• Memphis coach John Pastner announced on Saturday that freshman Jelan Kendrick is off the team. The McDonald’s All-American had missed 2 weeks of practice for personal reasons back before the season started, and there was no explanation for the move. The Hoyas face off against the Tigers in Memphis on Dec. 23.

The season officially gets underway on Friday, but before that happens, I figured I’d let you in on what’s going on with the Hoyas who’ve taken their basketball skills beyond the hilltop.

Chris Wright scored 34 Points in Georgetown’s recent win against Harvard. The performance earned him a spot on the Big East Weekly Honor Roll, and here are some interesting stats about the 30-point game:

• Wright’s point total was the highest scored by a player in a game under head coach John Thompson III.
• It was only the second time since JTIII became the head coach that a player for the Hoyas has scored 30 or more – Jeff Green scored 30 points in the 2007 Big East Semifinal win over Notre Dame.
• The 34-point performance is the highest by any Hoya since February 7, 2004 when Gerald Riley put up 37 at home against Miami.

Since 30-point games have been such a rare occurrence lately for the Hoyas, we thought it would be a nice time to look back at the most recent 30-point games. Instead of going back all the way back through the entire history of the Hoyas, we decided to begin with the 1994-95 season. That was the year that Allen Iverson was a freshman.
