Georgetown:
The Hoyas overcame a nine point first half deficit to defeat Marquette 69-60 for their eighth straight conference win. Throughout this win streak, Georgetown has found a variety of ways to win, and in this game they found another, using defense and rebounding to limit Marquette’s opportunities, since the outside shots were not falling. The Hoyas started the game 0-7 on three pointers and were just 26% on threes for the game.
The poor shooting, combined with poor first half rebounding translated to Georgetown trailing 35-31 at the break. But, the Hoyas made key adjustments coming out of halftime, with an added emphasis on rebounding. Combine that with the team’s strong defensive performance, and for the second game in a row, Georgetown held their opponent to under 10 field goals in the second half, this time allowing Marquette just seven.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas gritted out a tough 64-56 win over arch-nemesis Syracuse to extend their win streak to seven games. It was not pretty, and the Hoyas struggled to score at various points throughout the game. However, they came up with big stops when they needed them, and made big plays down the stretch to earn the road victory.
Georgetown’s game plan offensively was to get the ball to the high post, then look for kick out passes to shooters for threes. The plan worked early, as Georgetown was getting plenty of open three-point looks, and started the game 4-5 from beyond the arc. However, as the game progressed, the outside shots stopped falling as Syracuse began extending their zone, making it harder to get the ball inside or move it around the perimeter.

Georgetown displayed great poise, stout defense and efficient execution for 37 minutes Saturday, then hung on–despite miserable turnovers and the worst cut-away in ESPN history–to defeat #7/#8 Villanova, 69-66. The last minute was the most exciting of Georgetown basketball since at least Missouri, and left fans exhilarated, exhausted, and reaching for their stents. Ultimately, clutch free-throw shooting, timely press breaks, and one defensive stop were just enough to secure the Hoyas their signature conference win to date. The victory put Georgetown above .500 in conference for the first time this year and gave the Hoyas their first four-game conference winning streak since 2008.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas gritted out a big win in a hostile environment to extend their winning streak to four games, beating Villanova 69-66. It was not the prettiest of performances, but Georgetown did enough down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Things started to look bleak for the Hoyas near the end of the game, as two costly turnovers due to the Villanova press allowed the Wildcats, and the crowd, back in the game. But, from then on out the Hoyas played nearly flawless basketball, scoring on every possession in the last two minutes and also not allowing the Wildcats’ most effective three point shooters an open look to tie the game on their final possession.

- Austin Freeman was named the Big East Player of the Week for what is remarkably the first time in his career. In the Hoyas’ only game last week, Austin went 10-13 for 28 points to go with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. Gerard Coleman of Providence earned the Big East Rookie of the Week award.
- The new rankings were released yesterday, and Georgetown moved up to #21 in the AP Top 25 and to #20 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. There are 7 teams from the Big East ranked in the Top 25 according to both polls.
- On Saturday, Providence beat Louisville 72-67. That marked the Friars first conference win in 17 games, dating back to January 27, 2010 when they upset then #19 Connecticut.
- In Big Monday action last night, #15 Notre Dame handed #2 Pitt their first loss of the season, defeating the Panthers 56-51 in Pittsburgh. Now all teams in the conference have at least one loss.

Georgetown:
Phew. The Hoyas narrowly defeated Seton Hall, in a game that perhaps best characterized the recent performances of the team. At times, Georgetown looked unstoppable, using backdoor cuts to slice apart the Seton Hall defense for easy baskets, and making three pointers with similar ease. However, there were also stretches where the Hoyas could do nothing right, committing stupid turnovers, allowing the Pirates easy transition layups, taking bad shots and missing easy ones.
The most frustrating part about the game was that Georgetown is a much better team than Seton Hall. They had a chance to put the game away early, but, like in the Rutgers game on Saturday, the Hoyas did not close the door and allowed an inferior opponent to get back into the game. This has been a problem all year for the Hoyas, an inability to pull away in games, and it very nearly cost them in this one.
