Brendan Gaughan Interview

By Tony

Brendan Gaughan in Hoya HatGeorgetown Basketball and Football alum, Brendan Gaughan was recently spotted sitting behind the Hoya bench at the Charleston Classic.

Today, I got a chance to catch up with the old #10 to talk about this year’s team, former teammate Allen Iverson, and how Brendan’s been doing in the NASCAR world.

Mike’s NC State Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas played an uninspired first several minutes of this game, allowing NC State to jump out to an early lead and get the partisan crowd involved. However, Georgetown eventually refocused, and while they didn’t have a great half, they kept the game close, taking a 37-37 tie into the locker room at the break. Then, they turned it up a notch.

At the start of the second half Georgetown rediscovered its scoring touch and upped the pressure on the Wolfpack defensively. As a result, NC State missed 11 of their first 12 shots of the second half. And as Georgetown continued to score on open jumpers, NC State was forced to extend their defense, making way for the patented backdoor cuts that can dissect defenses. From that point on, the Hoyas were in full control and more or less coasted to the tournament championship.

Hoyas Win Charleston Classic, UNC Drops Two in Puerto Rico

By Johnny

Here’s a look at what went down this past weekend:

Charleston Champs

By Over the Hilltop

Georgetown held N.C. State scoreless for nearly six minutes in the second half Sunday night, turning a two-point deficit into a thirteen point lead and pulling away from the Wolfpack to claim the Charleston Classic title. The Hoyas and Wolfpack played an otherwise even game, pulling to a number of ties, including at the half and, for the last time, at 44-44 with just under 16 minutes remaining. But, the Hoyas’ perseverance through a cold-shooting first half, tenacity on defense and on the boards, and aggressiveness in seeking offensive opportunities in the open court all made the difference down the stretch.

While Georgetown’s first three games were characterized by the dominance of Chris Wright, Austin Freeman, and Jason Clark, the last two have seen increased contributions from a number of role players. No one Hoya turned in the best performance of Sunday’s game, but at least six turned in performances necessary to victory:

NC State Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas are the 2010 Charleston Classic Champions. The Hoyas used a dominant second half to pull away from North Carolina State, winning by a final score of 82-67.

The Wolfpack scored the first points of the game, putting Georgetown behind for the first time in the tournament. The Hoyas trailed for a large portion of the first half as the team looked a bit aloof defensively, and North Carolina State took advantage, pushing the tempo and crashing the offensive rebounds. Georgetown eventually settled in, fighting back to tie the game going into halftime, 37-37.

Mike’s Wofford Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas put together their best team effort of the year, using a balanced scoring attack to defeat Wofford. Nine different Hoyas scored, and the team shot 57% from the field. But, unlike the other games this season, most of the damage came from inside the arc, as Georgetown only attempted eight three pointers, compared to the season average coming into the game of 27. Instead, they dominated inside with 32 points in the paint. And when they weren’t scoring, they were drawing fouls and going to the free throw line. The team shot 77.8% from the line, the first time this season they were above 50% from the stripe.
