Georgetown:
Georgetown entered the game as the rare higher-seeded underdog, but against the trendy Belmont Bruins, the Hoyas proved that they were in fact the better team. Georgetown controlled this game from beginning to end thanks to their efficient offense and stingy defense. There were stretches where the Hoyas had lapses that have proved dangerous all season, but for the most part, they played a solid game. And most importantly, they live to play again.

- The Big East Conference announced their end of the season honors, and Georgetown’s Jason Clark was named to the First Team All-Big East. Fellow senior Henry Sims was named to All-Big East Third Team, and Hollis Thompson received an Honorable Mention. Unfortunately, Otto Porter was not recognized as one of the conference’s top rookies.
- With all the regular season games ending on Saturday, the field for the Big East Tournament is set. Georgetown finished in a three-way tie for 4th place, and due to tiebreakers ended up as the #5 seed of the tournament. The Hoyas will play the winner of the #12 – #13 game on Wednesday at 2:00pm. St. John’s will face Pittsburgh tomorrow at 2:00 to see who the Hoyas’ opponent will be.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas closed out the home season with their second blowout in three days, this time dismantling Notre Dame 59-41. Georgetown experienced no letdown after its 21 point win over Villanova, following the same strategy for success. The Hoyas totally dominated the Irish defensively, holding them to 33.3% shooting on the night and just 17.6% from three-point range. This year’s Notre Dame team is not as dangerous from downtown as some of their predecessors, but if left open they can do a lot of damage. Georgetown did a great job of keeping the Irish’s perimeter shooters covered and not giving up any uncontested shots.
Offensively, The Hoyas shot very well, 52.3% from the field, and moved the ball effectively. The team is still sometimes too anxious to post up Henry Sims on the low block, feeding him too early before he has established good position. But other than that, Georgetown looked very good all around, perhaps the team’s best performance of the season.

After the Hoyas’ victory over USF, Coach Thompson addressed the media alongside Henry Sims, Jason Clark, and Markel Starks. I’ve been to a lot of press conferences, and this one was particularly uninteresting, but here’s the audio for you anyway:

- The new rankings were released yesterday, and Georgetown (with wins over DePaul and Rutgers this week) moved up to #9 in the AP Top 25 and #10 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
- Syracuse had a two-game road trip this weekend, and sophomore Fab Melo did not make the trip with the team, supposedly for academic reasons. The Orange lost their first game of the season on Saturday, falling to Notre Dame, 58-67. As a result, Syracuse dropped out of the #1 spot and fell to #3 according to the AP and #4 according to the coaches. They’ve already gotten back in the win column with a victory over Cincinnati last night.
- The Big East announced its weekly honors yesterday, and Jason Clark was named to the Big East Honor Roll for his performances against DePaul and Rutgers. He had a career-high 31 points against DePaul, and averaged 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1.5 assists over the two games. Villanova took home the two big awards this week with Maalik Wayns named Big East Player of the Week and Jayvaughn Pinkston Big East Rookie of the Week.

On Sunday, Georgetown rode a dominant rebounding effort and a hot hand to a road conference victory. Tuesday, the formula was much the same, as the Hoyas relied on Jason Clarkâs sharpshooting and team board work en route to a 83-75 win at DePaul.
Clark led all scorers, hitting 11 of 14 shots, 5 of 7 from three, en route to a career-high 31 points. The senior guard re-found his outside stroke, which had eluded him throughout a 4-for-22 three-point slump over the past six games. But he also played to his strengths, slashing to the hoop and pushing the ball in transition. Clark also affected the game in other ways, assuming primary ball-handling duties in the absence of point guard Markel Starks (who was sidelined with a stomach bug), swiping four steals, and grabbing five rebounds.
