The Kenner League is not the only summer basketball to get underway this past weekend. The NBA Summer League started up yesterday and two Hoyas are on rosters: Brandon Bowman and Patrick Ewing, Jr.
While Brandon has yet to see any action for the Charlotte Bobcats, Patrick has been the leading scorer for the Orlando Magic in both oftheir games so far.
The Magic lost both games, but they are still the team to watch for Hoyas fans as Patrick Ewing is coaching his son in the hopes of landing him a spot on a regular season NBA roster.
Here’s an interview with father and son after this afternoon’s game:
Last week, it was finalized that the Hoyas will play in the 2009 Jimmy V Classic. They will be playing Butler at Madison Square Garden on December 8.
Also, the Big East conference matchups were announced, and Georgetown will be playing Villanova, Syracuse, and Rutgers twice in the upcoming season. Georgetown’s other home games will be against Connecticut, Notre Dame, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Cincinnati, and South Florida.

DaJuan Summers is on the Pistons’ Summer Roster, and Patrick Ewing, Jr. will be back with the Knicks again trying to make a case for making the final roster after being the last player cut last season.

The first set of polls was released over the weekend, and Georgetown came in #22 in the AP Poll and #18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. In both polls, the Big East had 7 teams in the Top 25.
The Indiana Pacers won their first game of the season on Saturday, defeating the Boston Celtics 95-79. Roy played 12 minutes and scored 5 points off of 2-3 shooting. Coach Jim O’Brien had this to say of Hibbert: “I thought Roy did some good things. He needs to maintain his focus. His work ethic is great and I’m very, very pleased with how he’s developing.”
Jeff Green’s team also earned their first win this weekend, and for them it was the first win with their new name, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-85 last night. Jeff had 13 points and three assists, but he missed two critical free throws that would have pushed the lead to five with seven seconds left in the game.
Patrick Ewing was upset to find out that the Knicks had cut his son and said that he is looking into opportunities in Europe or the D-League.
