  • It was NBA All-Star Weekend, and after last year marked the first All-Star game without a Hoya on the roster in 24 year, Roy Hibbert represented Georgetown in this year's festivities. While he only scored three points for the East, he also had some fun on Saturday night, getting dunked on by teammate Paul George in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
  • On Friday night, Greg Monroe had a big game in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, playing for Team Shaq. Despite falling to Team Chuck, Greg put up an impressive line, earning 19 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block. His last steal came with 15 seconds left when he sneakily grabbed the ball from John Wall trying to throw himself an alley-oop.

  • There were tons of losses in the Top 25 over the past week, and four of the top 5 teams in the country picked up a loss as #2 Pittsburgh lost to Notre Dame on Big Monday, #3 Duke lost to St. John's yesterday in New York, #4 San Diego State lost their first game to Brigham Young on Wednesday, and #5 Connecticut fell to Louisville in double overtime on Saturday.
  • Also, #8 Villanova and #9 Syracuse each lost twice over the week, and #9 Brigham Young, #11 Missouri, #12 Purdue, #13 Texas A&M, #16 Minnesota, #17 Wisconsin, #18 Washington, #19 Vanderbilt, #20 Illinois, #22 Florida State, #24 Florida, and #25 Michigan State all lost a game this week as well.
  • #1 Ohio State is the only unbeaten team left in the country, and they narrowly escaped experiencing their first loss with a 58-57 win over Northwestern on Saturday.
  • In the NBA, Jeff Green continues to do well with the Thunder, as he scored 19 points and hit the game-tying shot in the overtime win against Minnesota, had 13 and 10 against the Wizards, and then scored 23 in the loss to the Heat yesterday afternoon.
  • Roy Hibbert scored 20 points for the first time since November, but followed up that performance against the Nets with a 2 point showing against Chicago . Expect big changes for the Pacers, though, as coach Jim O'Brien was fired and replaced with interim coach Frank Vogel.
  • Greg Monroe is continuing to do well with the Pistons as he scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds in a loss against the Knicks yesterday. DaJuan Summers played 12 minutes in that and scored four points.
  • In the NBA Development League, Patrick Ewing, Jr. was traded from the Reno Big Horns to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Tuesday. In his first games with the Skyforce, he scored 13 and grabbed 15 boards and then followed that up with a team leading 14 points in two losses to the Dakota Wizards.

  • The Hoyas moved to 6-0 with a home win over UNC Asheville on Saturday in which Austin Freeman tied the school record for threes in a game with seven.
  • Alonzo Mourning was named one of seven Hoyas who will be entered into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in February. The event, taking place in Leavey Center on Friday, February 25, will also include Michael Stahr, Kathryn Federici, Dean Lowry, James Kenny, Mark Marilley, and Andrew Hoffmann from various sports on the Hilltop.
  • Five teams in the AP Top 10 lost their first game this week. Unranked Connecticut beat #2 Michigan State and #8 Kentucky. #4 Kansas State lost to top-ranked Duke, #7 Villanova fell to #24 Tennessee, and #10 Purdue were upset by unranked Richmond.
  • In the NBA, Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers in overtime on Friday.     Yesterday, we got you updated with all the Hoyas on Twitter, and today, I’ll be giving you recent updates on Georgetown players in the NBA and beyond.

    NBA Hoyas

    • NBA Jeff GreenJeff Green (NBA Profile) is in his fourth season with the Oklahoma City Thunder (nee Seattle SuperSonics). So far this season, he’s averaging just shy of 20 points per game with over seven rebounds and a steal per game. He had to sit out the last game against the Celtics with a rolled ankle, and hopefully will return to action tomorrow against the 76ers. Sunday night marked the first game that Jeff has missed since sitting out four games in 2009 with back spasms.
    • NBA Roy HibbertRoy Hibbert (NBA Profile), in his third season with the Indiana Pacers, is coming into his own as a true NBA center. Starting the season off with a 28 point, 10 rebound performance against the San Antonio Spurs, he’s continued to shine averaging a double-double in the Pacers’ five opening games. It seems like his hard work is paying off, and he’s getting more attention as a result.
    • NBA DaJuan SummersDaJuan Summers (NBA Profile) is in his second season with the Detroit Pistons, and as he did last year, he’s struggling to find playing time. He’s played in three of the Pistons’ seven games this season and has yet to make a lasting impact.
    • NBA Greg MonroeGreg Monroe (NBA Profile) is also with the Pistons, and like DaJuan he’s yet to find his role on the struggling Pistons. He’s been getting more playing time of late, getting action in Detroit’s last five games after sitting out the first two games credited to coach’s decision.

      • Europe and Beyond

    • Allen Iverson, after 14 seasons in the NBA, is taking his talents across the Atlantic Ocean to play with Beşiktaş Cola Turka in Istanbul. Just arriving in Turkey on Monday, he’s yet to play a game in Europe, but Allen has already seen the impact of his arrival as fans and media swarmed him at the airport yesterday, and he received a welcome ovation at a Beşiktaş soccer game last night.
    • Jessie Sapp, after spending a year in Scotland with the Glasgow Rocks, is now playing in Slovakia for Basketbal Pezinok.
    • Jonathan Wallace is playing basketball in Germany with FC Bayern Munchen. Over the weekend, he led Munich in scoring with 17 points in their win over ETB Wohnbau.
    • Brandon Bowman is currently playing professionally in Bulgaria for PBC Lukoil Academic. Former Marquette standout Dominic James is also playing in Sofia, who are currently 4-0 and sitting atop the Bulgarian National Basketball League standings.
    • Kevin Braswell is the only Hoya in Oceania, playing his second season with the New Zealand Breakers He had 14 points and five assists over the weekend against the Gold Coast Blaze.
    • Victor Samnick, another 2002 Hoya alum, is playing for Sluc Nancy Basket in France.
    • Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje is still playing in Germany, but he’s no longer with EWE Baskets Oldenburg. This season, he’s playing for the Artland Dragons from Quakenbruck.
    • Jameel Watkins may or may not play for a team called Hekmeh also known as Al-Hikma also known as Club Sagesse in Beirut, Lebanon. There really is very little information about the team of many names as they don’t have an active website.

While the scrimmage was closed to the public, there are some reports that Georgetown lost on Saturday. Scrimmages are behind us now, though, as the first game of the season takes place Friday night at Tulane.
  • As of this weekend, Allen Iverson has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Memphis Grizzlies to deal with a personal matter. The Grizzlies confirm that it is a family matter and has nothing to do with Allen's displeasure with his playing time.
  • Roy Hibbert returned to the Verizon Center on Friday to take on the Washington Wizards. The Pacers won easily, and Roy had his third-straight double-double putting up 12 and 11 off of 5-9 shooting.

      • Michigan State beat Connecticut in the first game of the Final Four. With the entire city of Detroit behind them, the Spartans upset the Huskies, 82-73, to advance to their first championship game since they won it in 2000.
      • In the other semifinal, North Carolina defeated Villanova 83-69. They're set to face Michigan State in the Championship game tonight on CBS with tipoff scheduled for 9:21.
