We’ve been talking a lot lately about the Hoyas’ home winning streak, and how at last the Hoyas have a real home court advantage. After the impressive win against UCONN on Monday, it’s time to turn our attention back home, as the Hoyas face Pitt on Saturday at the Verizon Center. We’re hoping Georgetown can keep the streak alive against the Panthers, and we’ve also put together a small list of the best moments so far.

Jeff Green, Roy Hibbert, Jonathan Wallace, Patrick Ewing, Jr., and Tyler Crawford were the Georgetown Basketball Class of 2008. Ewing transferred in from Indiana after two years in Bloomington, and Jeff Green left school after his junior season to enter the NBA Draft. Still, these players and that class as a whole did as much for Georgetown Basketball as any group ever.

- The Georgetown Hoyas defeated Mount St. Mary’s at Verizon Center on Saturday, extending their home unbeaten streak to 28. The Hoyas face Florida International tomorrow night at 7:30 in Chinatown.
- Four teams from the Top 10 in both polls lost on Saturday. #5 Texas lost at home to #19 Michigan State 67-63, and #9 Louisville lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 70-64. In two Top 10 matchups, #7 Xavier fell to #6 Duke, 82-64, and #8 Gonzaga lost to #2 Connecticut in overtime, 88-83.
- Allen Iverson had his best game as a Piston as he scored a season high 38 points in their 120-114 loss to the Jazz in double overtime.
- Similarly, Roy Hibbert scored a career high 16 points in his double overtime loss to the Clippers. Big Roy started the game, played 23 minutes, shot 8-10 from the field, pulled down 8 rebounds, and had 5 blocked shots. And with all of that action on the court, he only picked up two personal fouls, which is a good sign for the foul-prone rookie.

So I guess I wasn’t paying too much attention. Maybe I was too focused on the Memphis game, I don’t know, but I completely forgot that Roy Hibbert and the Pacers were coming to the Verizon Center to play the Wizards last night. I realized it yesterday morning, and without a press pass, I decided I would fork over the $20 to see the game from the stands.

- The Georgetown Hoyas beat the Memphis Tigers on Saturday in overtime 79-70. It was the first ranked opponent that Georgetown defeated this season, and it improved on Coach Thompson III’s incredible close game record.
- Two teams in the Top 10 lost over the weekend, as #8 Tennessee fell to the Temple Owls 88-72 on Saturday, and then #4 Gonzaga was defeated by the University of Arizona 69-64 Sunday night. Both of the losing teams played in the Old Spice Classic with Tennessee falling to Gonzaga in the Championship game back in November.
- Roy Hibbert earned his first NBA start on Saturday in the Pacers’ 121-103 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Roy went 4-7 from the field to pick up 8 points in his 18 minutes. The Pacers play the Wizards tonight at the Verizon Center, and hopefully Roy can start once again at his old home court.
- Jeff Green had a season high 33 points in Oklahoma City’s losing effort against the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder have only managed to win two games all season and are sitting at the bottom of the league standings.

- The Hoyas had their annual Hoya Hoop Club open practice on Friday and then scrimmaged against George Mason on Saturday. The scrimmage was closed to the press, and none of us could make it to the open practice, so we have very little details. Check out the Hoya Talk board for any details on the open practice.
- Allen Iverson made his debut for the Detroit Pistons over the weekend falling both to the Nets in his first game as a Piston and to the Celtics in his first home game in Detroit.
- Roy Hibbert had a career highs Friday in the Pacers’ losing effort against Cleveland on Friday. He scored 11 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and had a pair of assists. Unfortunately, he also had a career high in personal fouls, fouling out of the game with nine minutes to play.
Roy’s next game is tonight at 7:00 against former teammate Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

- The first set of polls was released over the weekend, and Georgetown came in #22 in the AP Poll and #18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. In both polls, the Big East had 7 teams in the Top 25.
- The Indiana Pacers won their first game of the season on Saturday, defeating the Boston Celtics 95-79. Roy played 12 minutes and scored 5 points off of 2-3 shooting. Coach Jim O’Brien had this to say of Hibbert: “I thought Roy did some good things. He needs to maintain his focus. His work ethic is great and I’m very, very pleased with how he’s developing.”
- Jeff Green’s team also earned their first win this weekend, and for them it was the first win with their new name, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-85 last night. Jeff had 13 points and three assists, but he missed two critical free throws that would have pushed the lead to five with seven seconds left in the game.
- Patrick Ewing was upset to find out that the Knicks had cut his son and said that he is looking into opportunities in Europe or the D-League. Meanwhile, the New York Post is reporting that the Knicks may waive Stephon Marbury today as Knicks President Donnie Walsh and Marbury are scheduled to meet today. Marc Berman of the Post speculates that if they waive Marbury, the Knicks may re-sign Patrick Ewing, Jr.
