By Johnny

Here’s a little round up of what’s been said and posted about Roy around the internet the past couple days:

Hopefully Roy will be making many more headlines once the NBA season begins.

The Madness Before March

By Hoya Hoops
  • Midnight Madness took place this Friday, with everything you would expect – dunking, dancing, and some surprise guests including Jerry Rice, Dikembe Mutombo, and Jeff Green’s Mom.
  • Roy Hibbert’s Indiana Pacers jersey was added to the wall in McDonough, the first new jersey since Jeff Green last year. There was no unveiling of Patrick Ewing Jr.’s Knicks jersey yet.

Hoyas in the League

By Tony

The NBA season tips off on October 28th. It’s easy to miss some of the transactions in the NBA during the off-season, so here is a list of all of the Hoyas in the league. Naturally, all of this is subject to change, but here’s what we have right now.

Roy and Pat Drafted

By Hoya Hoops

The 2008 NBA Draft took place last night in New York, and two Hoyas got their name called by David Stern. First, Roy Hibbert was drafted by the Toronto Raptors as the 17th pick of the night with a trade to the Indiana Pacers completed later last night. Then in the second round, the Sacramento Kings drafted Patrick Ewing, Jr. with the 43rd overall pick.

Be sure to check out all of our draft coverage here: Mike’s article on withdrawal day, Tony’s article on the future of Hoyas in the pros, Johnny’s Eyeball to Eyeball on why not to draft Roy, and the list of all Hoyas ever drafted.

Three Reasons Not to Draft Roy

By Johnny

With the NBA Draft fast arriving and Mike and Tony already having put in their two cents on Roy Hibbert and the NBA, I thought it was about time that I wrote another Eyeball to Eyeball for you all. And that’s why I’m here to tell you the three reasons no NBA team should draft Roy Hibbert.

Out with the Old

By Tony

If you’re like me, you used to like the NBA, but now you don’t. That was back in the days when teams tried to build success around drafted players instead of relying solely upon free agency. Well, now that the Celtics have become world champions thanks to free agency, it’s another tough blow for old-time NBA fans. So, if you’re like me it’s time to move into what ever century this is, and accept the fact that it’s a new day.

Withdrawal

By Mike

Yesterday was a big day for college basketball fans. June 17th was the deadline for college students to withdraw their name from the NBA draft and still retain their eligibility. For Hoya fans, there was little drama, as they could watch the last minute decisions with relative ease. Of course, there was some excitement, but the relief of Joe Alexander’s departure to the NBA or the return of a powerful UNC lineup probably did not cause Georgetown fans to lose any sleep. It was a different story last year.

Seniors to Seniors

By Tony

In the fall of 1986, four freshmen basketball players began their careers at Georgetown University. That was an important time in Georgetown Basketball history. The previous March, four long-time Hoyas had ended their historic careers: Ralph Dalton, David Wingate, Michael Jackson, and Horace Broadnax had all been major contributors on the NCAA National Championship team two years earlier. Two of those players left school among the all-time greats – Wingate ended his career as the third all-time leading scorer, and Jackson was Georgetown’s all-time leader in assists after his four seasons. There was a cloud of doubt at the start of the 1986-87 season, and in many ways the future of Georgetown Basketball depended on those four freshmen.
