Chvotkinisms

By Hoya Hoops

In honor of our recent interview, here’s this week’s Game Time question:

What is your favorite Chvotkinism?

If you can’t guess, a Chovtkinism would be defined as one of the quirky things that Rich Chvotkin is known to say during the course of a Hoyas game. One of our favorites? The “snowbird.” What are yours?

  1. HoyaChris Says:

It has to be “The blue clad Hoyas going left to right on your radio dial”

  2. Hoya Saxa Says:

I’d say anytime Roy “throws down a hoooker in the lane.”

  3. lic Says:

ajax cleans the boards and the hoyas win the hoyas win the hoyas win etc. etc..etc.etc. etc…

  4. E Chvotkin Says:

    Oh my!

  5. DJ Says:

I kinda like the “4-0″ runs that he mentions. He always has a flair for the dramatic.

  6. Dr. Naismith Says:

In the old days if a player made the same play two possessions in a row, he would say, “This is a recording.” It was like the old telephone operator’s message that would keep repeating if a number was disconnected or something. He doesn’t do it very much in the cell phone era, but it always used to make me laugh.

  7. Emily Says:

Besides the phrases I mentioned in my Hoyku, I like it when he talks about the “Vespers half.” What does that even mean?

  8. E Chvotkin Says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespers

Vespers are the evening service, so the “vesper half” is the 2nd half, or evening portion of the game :) a subtle nod to the Georgetown Jesuit tradition.

  9. Johnny Says:

I like how he uses the term “Alley-oop.” To him, an alley-oop is just a pass, probably lobbed a little bit. And he calles a real alley-oop an “Alley-oop upstairs.” So during one play, you may hear:

“Jesse Sapp alley-oops it to Hibbert at the free throw line. Alley-oop to Wallace. Fakes a three. And alley-oop upstairs to Summers who slams it home. Oh my!”

  10. Liz Says:

    Shakin’ and bakin’!

  11. Jim Says:

Toes the charity stripe. . .string music!

  12. Jim Says:

    Or: Missed the bunny!
