Old Dominion In-Game Thread
By JohnnyAlright, game starts in just over 20 minutes, and everybody’s been awaiting this rematch ever since ODU’s surprise upset over the Hoyas last year. Let’s see if the Hoyas can pay the Monarchs back and keep their winning streak going.
Post your thoughts in the comments.
November 28th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
Let’s go Hoyas, let’s make it 4-0.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Hope this works… no radio here in Italy… let’s go Hoyas!!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Same lineup as usual for the Hoyas:
Wallace, Summers, Sapp, Ewing, Jr., and Hibbert
And for the Monarchs:
Johnson, Henderson, Harris, Lee, and Adams
November 28th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Monarchs win the tip and get called for a travel 30 seconds in
November 28th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Hibbert has to be stronger. he cant get blocked by that stiff
November 28th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
7-3 Harris blocks Hibbert down low.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Replay shows stiff got hibby’s wrist
November 28th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Wallace just ties his point total from last game with a 3 pointer.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Nice drive by Jessie.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
nice nice take by sapp he just kept coming and no one stepeped up to stop him
November 28th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
SEND IT IN!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Roy’s dunk makes the score 9-2, and the Monarchs cant seem to find any rhythm, missing a bunch of outside shots.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
There’s an ODU 3
November 28th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
we are playing well early, but we have to secure these loose balls. tehy are not gonna keep missing forever, so we need to get rebounds, and limit the stupid turnovers. we gave them a free 3 points by not getting the rebound
November 28th, 2007 at 7:14 pm
Hoya turnover makes it 9-7 as we reach the 16 minute time out.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
Freeman came in a little while ago, marking the first time all season that Rivers is not the first sub for the Hoyas
November 28th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
that’s a foul. Summers is cutting to the basket and their guy just grabs him. we keep the ball because they tipped it out, but with all the garbage ticky tack fouls they are calling on us, you have to call it when they grab the cutter, otherwise we cant get backdoor layups.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Come on Hoyas. You’re looking sloppy out there.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Nice play by Sapp, saving the ball to Hibbert right under the basket for an easy 2
November 28th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
great hustle by sapp
November 28th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
Backdoor baby, like Lionel says. all night long
November 28th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Line change for the Hoyas –> Freeman, Wright, Rivers, Ewing, and Macklin
November 28th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Nice rebound by wright
November 28th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Over the back on Freeman - Hoyas winning 13-9 at the 12 minute timeout
November 28th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
Macklin just got blocked. We need to be stronger with the ball. Hibberts been blocked twice and now macklin? come on, boys, be tough.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
That’s his dematha training, don’t play defense, don’t get position, just reach and go over the back. Hope JTIII can set him straight.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Skying rebound by PJ!!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Again with the sloppy - come hoyas, step it up
November 28th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
another blatant foul on a macklin cut that goes uncalled, results in gu turnover.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
ODU airballs a long 3 with shot clock running out, but Lee grabs the rebound and gets an easy bucket under the basket
November 28th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
MAKE YOUR LAYUPS!!!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
There’s a three by Wright, but misses a breakaway layup right afterwards
November 28th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
ODU alley-oop cuts it to 3
November 28th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
There’s another turnover for the Hoyas. Come on Hoyas!!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
Sapp just dribbles around the guy trying to draw the charge, and the crowd still boos. Idiots.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
I can’t watch the game, but on gamecasts it seems like ODU has an awful lot of rebounds- is this team really that good on the glass?
November 28th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
They are pretty good rebounders, and the Hoyas aren’t doing much to stop them. And unlike Ball State, these guys are big, so poor positioning really hurts the Hoyas.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
Nice backdoor - Summers to Sapp - for 2
November 28th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
There you go Roy, finally got one back.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Their misses are also clangers, so even getting position sometime doesnt help cause tehy bounce out so far
November 28th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
ODU is not afraid to go inside - big man Lee has 12 of their 19 points
November 28th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Offensive rebound by Lee ties the game at 21 - and Thompson needs a timeout.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
We’re making this guy look like he’s tim duncan.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
We had three guys back on that break- they all jumped to block the first shot and left the rebound open.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
There you go PJ!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Quick 3 by Ewing puts Hoyas up 5.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Big shot for PJ
November 28th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
who are the 5 on the floor
November 28th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
OMG! THUNDEROUS!!
November 28th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Nice jam by Freeman from Hibbert dish.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
its wright, freeman, hibbert, pj, sapp,
November 28th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Well, it was Hibbert, Freeman, Ewing, Wright, and Sapp, but it’s the 4 minute timeout now.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
how is that not a shooting foul?
November 28th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Hibbert gets a jam right near the end of the half, and Hoyas lead by 7 at the half 30-23.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Come on Hoyas, let’s finish this game out in the second
November 28th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
That guy Gerald Lee is putting on a show tonight. Here’s his line at the half:
16 out of ODU’s 23 on 8-14 shooting with 5 rebounds — 4 offensive.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
so is the general feeling that we started sloppy and are starting to pull it together? I hate not being able to watch/listen to games
November 28th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I’m not sure if I’d go that far. There’s been sloppy play throughout. Wallace came out early and didn’t play very much that half. With him out of the game, the Hoyas miss that calming influence, and so it’s a little choppy. The big problem, though is the rebounds - ODU is getting way too many second chances.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
It’s really that one guy who is killing us, he has 16 points, they havent had to make a jumper today, we’ll see what happens if we can stop him more in the second, and i think we will try to do that.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Anyone watching MASN? Im thinking of getting tickets to that old spice classic in orlando. any idea when thats gonna happen? oh wait, it already did. good use of air time.
November 28th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
tehy are shooting 11/38! that’s pretty bad, its under 30%. but they also ahve 12 more attempts than we do, which means we gotta get more boards.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Alright, lets go now, kill em in the first 5 minutes
November 28th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Hoyas with the ball to start the half, nice take by Ewing to get 2.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
Way to go Hoyas, a rebound!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:02 pm
Ewing misses a 3, but Wallace gets the offensive rebound and is fouled.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
1 for 2 for J-Wall, not very good free throw shooting this season so far.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
wallace misses a free throw. not good.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Amazing pass by Hibbert leads to Wallace 3.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
There you go Roy.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
the Ala BAM! an
November 28th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Great pass by Wallace, mini-drive by Sapp, and shovel pass to Hibbert who got fouled. Definitely looking more together on offense this half.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
39-24 Hoyas after the free throw from Roy. Now just some defensive rebounds, and GU can end this game
November 28th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Nice going Hoyas!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
We are missing a lot of free throws. To me it means that ODU is making us work hard. When you are tired the free throws are harder to make. Hopefully we can relax and focus a little mroe on them
November 28th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Wallace’s full court pass gives Ewing a nice layup - a 20-3 run for the Hoyas - and ODU needs a timeout
November 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Darius James hits a 3 for ODU to make it 41-27
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
Nice backdoor from Macklin to Wright - who makes the layup this time.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
All night long All night! All night!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Wright looks like he’s picking up the offense - nice work off the ball. And then Freeman hits a 3.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I don’t think the Hoyas inbounded it there.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
nickle dimer foul maybe on rivers
November 28th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Hahaha They most certainly did not.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Rivers just got his shot blocked out of bounds in traffic, but it’s nice to see him getting offensive rebounds in traffic.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
nice take to the hole by the resident!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
Very aggressive play by Rivers - pump fake, drive into lane through traffic, Braswell-like pass fake, and then got hammered on the layup.
Made the 2 free throws - 48-31
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
SEND IT INNNNN!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Nice passing — good pass to Rivers and then nice extra pass to Macklin for a jam. Not too much Wallace in this half, but the rest of the Hoyas have stepped it up without him.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
For you Dan, here are the Hoyas on the court:
Wright, Rivers, Freeman, Ewing, and Hibbert
November 28th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
thanks J Train
November 28th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Yeah, a lot of weird lineups today. I like the very different styles we get depending on who’s on the court. And I like that everyone’s playing better this half!!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Hibbert misses “a hooker in the lane” but Freeman gets an offensive rebound and lays it in. Hibbert would be sent back to 0 in 21 on that one.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
i think thats 3 fouls on hibby
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Wallace got fouled after picking up a defensive rebound - only hits the front end of the 1 and 1
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Way to go Sapp!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Steal by Sapp, goes full length of the court, gets fouled, and makes the layup.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
the little guys are helping out on the rebounds today. its important, especially when their shots have such crazy bounces, good work boys
November 28th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Foul on Crawford puts ODU on the line shooting 1 and 1.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
incredible, he is spinning away from the contact, how is it a charge?????
November 28th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Very questionable charge call on Hibbert as he does his signature spin and jam.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Summers misses front end of 1 and 1, still 0 points
November 28th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Come on DaJuan - step it up - you’re my favorite!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
the big mac!!! ba da ba ba ba! im lovin it!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Nice dunk from Macklin off pick and roll with Ewing
November 28th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
what’s with the Hoyas missin their bunnies? you gotta hit ya bunnies!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
4 min time out hoyas up 18, im feeling good about this one!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
We arent missing too many bunnies, i think the wright lay up is the only one that sticks out. if you mean free throws though, i agree with what E said earlier, we are a little tired i guess. its still no excuse, but maybe an explanation
November 28th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
I don’t know. They haven’t been doing well all season from the stripe. Last game at Ball State it really could have hurt them, but some hits from Summers at the end helped pull it out.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
Summers just made 2 “bunnies” - and he’s off the schnide.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
They are killling us on the glass, thats a free throw they get an offensive rebound on. have to clean that up by big east time.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Wright almost got a steal, but he missed it, and ODU got a 3.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Timeout ODU with 1:12 left, Hoyas winning 62-46
November 28th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Substitution timeout to bring in crawford. nice move by jtiii
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
There’s the final whistle - GU: 66 - ODU: 48
November 28th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
big big big win for the hoyas, we ended up crushing them. nice work all around, with minimal help from summers and wallace, good game!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
anyone know why internationally you can’t listen to 980 or 570 or any online radio station? I love the comment board, but I gotta listen to my Hoyas!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
I don’t know. I listened to Chvotkin my junior year abroad. Must be some new change.
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
oh well.. sucks, but I guess espn.com gamecast and hoyahoops.com board will be my new norm from now on. Thanks Johnny!
November 28th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
I had the same problem with the ball state game. no idea, seems kind of cheap on the radio station’s part to me
November 29th, 2007 at 1:10 pm
I believe you can listen directly through Evan Chvotkin’s link. Check out the HoyaChat on the HoyaSaxa.com main page during the next game if you are listening abroad.
