March Madness
By Hoya HoopsWhat a weekend of college basketball. The last two days wrapped up the regular season and started the post-season all at once, and we at Hoya Hoops are ready to ride the wave of March Madness as far as the Hoyas will take us - hopefully into April Madness or at the very least, a “Burger Madness” from Wisemiller’s. Now then, let’s get you filled in on what to expect from us over the next few days.
We will be announcing our Big East Conference Awards. We’ve selected a first team, second team, and third team of players based on their regular season performances. We chose one center, two forwards, and two guards for each of the three teams. Our choices were not just about stats or perception, but instead we chose the players at each position that we thought had the best seasons - both individually and in terms of the positive impact they had on their teams.
In addition to the Hoya Hoops All Big East Teams, we will be unveiling our All Defense, All Rookie, and All Reserve teams. In order to be eligible for the All Reserve Team, players had to come off the bench in more conference games than they started - that’s the same criterion used to qualify for the NBA’s Sixth Man Award.
Finally we will be announcing our individual awards for League MVP, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Sixth Man of the Year. As always, we encourage you to have your say in the comments section (we will assume that if there are no comments, then everybody agrees with our selections).
Also, and this may be the most important information of all, we will be LIVE at Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tournament. We’ll have recaps for every game of the tournament, and we will have postgame quotes from John Thompson III as well as the Hoya players. HoyaHoops.com is now your Big East Championship Headquarters through Saturday night when the next Champion is crowned. Hoya Saxa.
