They coaches also voted for individual awards, and while Luke Harangody won the Preseason Player of the year, DaJuan Summers and Greg Monroe were both honored. Summers was placed on the Preseason All-Big East Team with ten other athletes, and Monroe was named Preseason Co-Rookie of the Year along with Louisville’s Samardo Samuels.
Last year, the Hoyas were treated much more kindly by the preseason polls, as Georgetown was ranked 1st alongside Louisville, Roy Hibbert was selected as Preseason Player of the Year, and both Hibbert and Jonathan Wallace were selected to the All-Big East team. As Tony pointed out then, though, all these preseason awards do is put a target on your back. Perhaps this year, the low profile Hoyas can surprise a few opponents early before getting any national recognition.
