At the 12:30 mark in the second half, the Georgetown Hoyas found themselves on the wrong side of a blowout, trailing their arch-rival Syracuse by 23 points, 60-37. But, the Hoyas would not give up without a fight.
Georgetown stormed back into the game, using a 32-10 run to cut the lead to one point with under two minutes to play. On the ensuing possession, Andy Rautins would only connect on one of two from the free throw line to leave the door open for the Hoyas.
Greg Monroe would also go one for two from the stripe, but rebounded his own miss, giving Georgetown a chance to take the lead with under a minute to play. However, Jason Clark would miss the potential game-winning shot, and the Hoyas would fall short in their attempt at a historic comeback, losing 75-71.
For the second time this year, three Georgetown players scored 20 or more points, with Austin Freeman leading the way with 21. For the Orange, Rautins ended the game with 26 points. Syracuse leading scorer Wes Johnson had 16, but only two of those points came in the second half.
The Hoyas have now lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, and the road does not get much easier. They next take on Louisville on Tuesday. Tip-off at Freedom Hall is at 7 PM.
