Louisville (#6) | 41 | 35 | 76 |
Georgetown | 31 | 27 | 58 |
Georgetown’s NCAA tournament hopes took a severe blow tonight, as the Hoyas dropped their second straight home game and fourth of five overall conference games, this time at the hands of the Louisville Cardinals, 76-58.
The Hoyas fell behind early, trailing by as many as 17 in the first half, before chipping away at the lead. Jessie Sapp’s three point bank shot at the first half buzzer capped a 7-0 run which left the Hoyas down only 10, 31-41, despite the Cardinals shooting 70% from the field, including a perfect 6-6 from beyond the arc.
The Hoyas fought hard defensively but could never get the scores when they needed them. Georgetown never got the lead under eight the entire second half. The field goal percentage was awful for the Hoyas after the break, going 10-32 - 31%. Chris Wright and Greg Monroe were the only Hoyas in double figures, with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Leading scorer DaJuan Summers had foul trouble in the first half and finished with only four points on 1-8 shooting for the night.
The Hoyas look to salvage what remains of their season as they take on perennial rival Villanova this Saturday in Philadelphia. Tip-off is at 12:00 PM.
