The Georgetown Hoyas ended their two-game losing streak with an impressive road victory against the Louisville Cardinals 70-60. In their next to last game at Freedom Hall, Louisville desperately wanted a win to help plead their case for the NCAA Tournament and to improve their ranking within the Big East Conference. With the win, the Hoyas have placed themselves tied with Louisville in 5th place in the conference at 9-6.
Georgetown started out slowly, missing their first six shots of the game and trailing by as many as 11 early on. Thanks to a strong performance by Greg Monroe, the Hoyas kept the game close for the rest of the first half, heading into the break down by six.
To start the second half, the Hoyas were firing on all cylinders, led by the hot hand of Austin Freeman. Freeman had ten points in the first four minutes of the half and ended up with a game-high 29 thanks to 24 second half points. Meanwhile the Cardinals only managed three points in the first ten minutes of the half, and as a result they found themselves trailing by 15 points.
Louisville could not muster a comeback as their three-point shots weren’t falling, and the Hoyas coasted to a ten point victory.
To go along with Freeman’s 29, Greg Monroe had a solid performance with 16 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Edgar Sosa led the Cardinals with 24 points and eight assists in the losing effort.
The Hoyas look to keep their winning streak alive as they return home to Verizon Center on Saturday where they will face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. That game will tipoff at noon and is being televised on CBS.
