After a series of lackluster performances, the Georgetown Hoyas closed out the Big East regular season with a resounding 74-47 win over Cincinnati. The win broke a month-long winless drought on home court and secured the Hoyas a first-round Big East Tournament bye.
Neither team shot well in the first half, as the game remained close. Georgetown took a three point lead into the locker room 29-26.
But after the break the Hoyas took control, going on a 31-6 run to blow the game open. The Hoyas would lead by as many as 31 before taking the foot of the petal. The final score was 74-47, Georgetown’s biggest win of the Big East season.
In his first game back after being diagnosed with diabetes, Austin Freeman looked as good as ever, scoring a game high 24 points. Greg Monroe and Chris Wright added 19 and 16 respectively, to improve the Hoyas to 10-8 in Big East play. Cincinnati was led by Lance Stephenson with 23 in a losing effort, who fall to 7-11 and drop to the #11 seed in the conference tournament.
The Hoyas are the eighth seed in the Big East Tournament, meaning they will play the winner of the 9-16 game, which is between South Florida and DePaul. The Hoyas will start their quest for an eighth Big East Tournament title against one of those teams on Wednesday at 12 PM.
