The Georgetown Hoyas came up 2 points short in their quest for their 8th Big East Tournament Championship.

With the score tied, West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler scored a short jumper in the lane with 4.2 seconds left to put the Mountaineers up by 2. Chris Wright drove the length of the floor and had a sprawling layup deflected as the buzzer sounded to give West Virginia their first Big East Championship since joining the league back in the 1995-96 season. West Virginia led for most of the game, extending their advantage to 9 points in the second half, but the Hoyas rallied and managed to tie the score in the final minutes on a three-pointer from Austin Freeman. West Virginia made two free throws in the final minute, before Wright’s spinning layup tied the score again, setting up the final possession for the Mountaineers.

Naturally, Da’Sean Butler was named the most outstanding player of the tournament,. Both Chris Wright and Greg Monroe were all-tournament selections for Georgetown. The team will now head back to Washington, D.C. and await their position for the NCAA Tournament.
