The 2008-09 season for the Georgetown Hoyas mercifully ended in the opening round of the NIT at the hands of the Baylor Bears. Baylor defeated Georgetown 74-72 in a game that was a microcosm of this torturous season for the Hoyas. The Hoyas started off in a near perfect fashion, hit a difficult stretch, responded briefly, and ultimately faded down the stretch, unable to come up with defensive stops or key baskets when needed most.

Georgetown used excellent shooting and efficiency to start the game, making 16 of their first 18 attempts from the field. Somehow, in spite of shooting nearly 80% from the field, the Hoyas only led by 10 at the half. To start the second half the Bears caught fire, scoring the first 8 points of the half to erase Georgetown’s cushion. The game was close throughout, with Baylor surging ahead by five points in the final minutes. The Hoyas had the ball trailing by three and missed three 3-point attempts on the same possession to let their final clear chance to tie the game slip away. A missed free-throw with three seconds to play gave the Hoyas a glimmer of hope, but a half-court shot from DaJuan Summers came up short.

DaJuan Summers led the Hoyas with 19 points on 7-12 shooting, Greg Monroe scored 12 points (5-6 FG), Austin Freeman scored 11 points, and Chris Wright added 10 points and six assists. Baylor was led by their talented trio Kevin Rogers (20 Points), LaceDarius Dunn (20 Points), and Curtis Jerrells (19 Points). Georgetown finishes the season with an overall record of 16-15.
