The Hoyas overcame a quiet night from stars Austin Freeman and Jason Clark to defeat Utah State by a final score of 68-51. Georgetown remains undefeated on the season and moves to an 8-0 start.
It was a sloppy first half for both teams, with many fouls and no real offensive rhythm for either side. Georgetown scored more points from the free throw line (17) than from the field (16), and managed to enter the break up by four, 33-29.
Georgetown came out of halftime with a renewed sense of focus, quickly stretching the lead to double digits. Georgetown used the press effectively, creating turnovers and fast break points and taking a 20 point lead over the Aggies with 10:06 remaining. Utah State went on a seven point run of their own to keep the game from being a blowout, but the Hoyas never really let the Aggies back in the game.
Chris Wright had a game high 21 points, and nine Hoyas scored in the contest. Pooh Williams led the Aggies with 9 points in the loss.
Next up for the Hoyas is a matchup against the Temple Owls. Tip-off is Thursday at 9 PM.
