Hey, guys. It’s Mike. Tip-off is about 20 minutes away. The Hoyas look to keep their record untarnished as they take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s the first game of a double header in the Pizza Hut Big East/SEC Invitational, with West Virginia taking on Auburn in the second game. Both games are being played at the neutral site of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Not as “neutral” as Coach Thompson would have liked, I’m sure. The Hoyas look to come out sharper than they did in their last game.
Feel free to leave your in-game thoughts in the comments.
December 5th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Come on Hoyas, let’s win one on National Television!
December 5th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
can they talk some more about the patriots, please? im not getting enough mid week coverage of them.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:02 pm
Hoyas’ Starting Five is as to be expected: Wallace, Sapp, Summers, Ewing Jr, and Hibbert. We’ll see how Sapp plays after not much PT last game.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Alabama wins the tip, Hendrix makes a baseline hip, 2-0 Alabama.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Nice hustle by Ewing there, as he deflects a Crimson Tide pass.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Way to go Pat!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
big shot for patrick. nice to see him take the three
December 5th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
they called a foul on that??? garbage. there was more contact on the wallace layup
December 5th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
Bizarre play there ends with a foul on Hibbert, and a goaltending on Ewing
December 5th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
nesslers an idiot, hibbert is a career 75% ft shooter
December 5th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
Come on Hoyas. You’re looking sloppy out there again. I don’t like the way we start these games.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:08 pm
Nice take by Sapp draws the foul, and he’ll be shooting two.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
The Hoyas are 4-4 to start the game from the free throw line. It’s still early, but encouraging.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Block on one end, and nice layup on the other. Then another block on defense. Roy’s having a nice stretch here.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
That’s a poor call. No travel there.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
How many turnovers is that? Too many.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
The Hoyas need to take care of the ball. Based on what the announcers are saying, Alabama is a running team, so we really need to limit the turnovers, especially those that lead to transition baskets. Pick it up, Hoyas!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
Rivers and Freeman in for Wallace and Summers.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
good take hibby!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:15 pm
What was that? It looked like he was gonna dunk it, and then he got thirty bounces on the rim before it went down.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Hibbert completes a 3-point play and take a 13-12 lead.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Great D by the Hoyas go to waste as they let the Crimson Tide grab an offensive rebound and a put back.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
bad transition defense, gotta get back.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
hey everyone! can’t watch the game (being in Italy), but it seems like Roy’s involved a lot so far… they trying to get him involved? or is he just taking a more aggressive approach?
December 5th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Way to go DaJuan!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Macklin replaces Hibbert after Roy goes 1-2 from the line
December 5th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
nice rebound by summers!!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
Jump ball called on Macklin’s first touch leads to 12 minute timeout, the officials dont know whose ball it is. Georgetown lost the tip so it should be Hoyas ball coming out of the timeout, Hoyas down 2, 19-17.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
To answer Dan, the Hoyas are feeding Roy more, he has gotten a few offensive rebounds. Also, Alabama has a big guy, Hendrix, so its easier to get the ball inside since they wont double team as often. We’ll see if that changes.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
thanks Mike
December 5th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Nice take Summers.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
wright with a 3. niiiiice
December 5th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
need to get rebounds on missed free throws….
December 5th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Nice block by Summers after the Hoyas give away too many offensive rebounds. But he was standing out of bounds, so Alabama gets the ball back again.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
It looks as thouhg the Hoyas have settled down a little. I still think we are turning the ball over too much, and some of the bounces aren’t going our way. Hopefully we will be able to pick up some of those loose balls.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Whoa. Great work Vernon!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Second chance points hurting the Hoyas, that 3 with the shot clock winding down giving Alabama a 2 point lead, 24-22.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Macklin looked pretty smooth as he threw down a reverse one handed jam. But now, Roy’s back in.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Alabama is outhussling the Hoyas. Way too many offensive rebounds.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Hoyas call timeout with 7:08 left, trailing by 4. Next whistle will be the official timeout.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
After a couple of quick missed threes (both by Sapp) and a bucket by Hendrix, Thompson calls a timeout, Hoyas down 28-24
December 5th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
WHOA! Way to go Hoyas!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
BOOOOMSHAKALAKA!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Great play by the Hoyas in transition. Ewing tips the ball away, Sapp grabs the loose ball, fires a rocket pass to Wallace who lobs it up for Ewing who threw down a powerful alley-oop jam.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Hoyas fast break, Sapp to Wallace who alley-oops it to Ewing for the slam. A whistle stops the game, Summers looks hurt. Not sure what it was.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
That’s not good. They just showed a stat that Alabama has 12 second chance points to the Hoyas’ 1.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Alabama has 10 more shot attempts than the Hoyas. That tells you a little bit about the rebounding for the Hoyas, allowing second chance points.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
Nice 3 by Wallace in transition. These Hoyas aren’t afraid to run the court.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
That 3 gave the Hoyas the lead, 29-28, and Alabama uses a 30.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
what’s with the poor rebounding this year?
December 5th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
These are some bouncy rims. Another shot stays up there for a while before falling down.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
they are playing good defense, denying hibbert the ball
December 5th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Looked like Wallace split two defenders, got slapped in the face, and lost the ball. Alabama takes the ball, runs down the court, splits two Hoyas, and then they blow the whistle. Pretty inconsistent there
December 5th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
There must be some issue with defensive assignments, but in the Hoyas’ defense, recently some of the the missed shots have had long, strange bounces.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Steal for Alabama but they turn it back over. 4 minute timeout. The Hoyas trail 32-29, but will have the ball with 3:26 left in the half when play resumes.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Yeah, some of these rebounds can be attributed to strange bounces, but the issue is bigger than that. And I don’t think it’s unique to this team. If I remember, the Hoyas were not too great on the boards last year either.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
come on hoyas, lets go now, take care of the ball, lets pound it into hibbert, and let him go to work or kick it out for open looks.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Nice Jessie!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Nice high screen by Hibbert lets Sapp drive to the lane for two. Next possesion, Roy starts a move, then dishes out, and a couple quick passes later, Hoyas get another layup - this time Summers.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
good ball movement by the hgoyas that time. nice finish dajaun
December 5th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
backbreaker
December 5th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
A lot of lead changes. Chvotkin must be having a field day.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Foul on Alabama, putting Ewing at the free throw line shooting 1-1, Hoyas trailing by 2.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Oh, come on. These rims are so bouncy!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
gotta gotta make layups!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Sapp just got a couple offensive rebounds in traffic, but couldn’t put back the layups.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
that’s a foul that goes uncalled, instead we get a turnover. get a d hoyas
December 5th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Absolutely ridiculous. Wright dribbles the length of the floor in 5 seconds and puts up a layup as the clock expires. Only problem - he was slapped on the arm and airballed the shot. No call. No clue.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Wright drives to the basket but misses a layup as time expires in the first half, the Hoyas trailing by 2, 35-33. If the Hoyas are gonna win this game, they are going to have to do better on the boards.
December 5th, 2007 at 7:58 pm
Let’s go Hoyas. Step it up in the 2nd half, and prove Hubert Davis right– #1 in the country.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Wallace misses a three, but grabs his own rebound and makes a floater to tie the game.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Wallace ties the game at 35, missed a three but followed it with a nice little runner.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
we are frigid from the field right now
December 5th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Sloppy sloppy. Sloppy play by the Hoyas, and sloppy officiating. Five players kicked that ball
December 5th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
The only thing missing from that ridiculous sequence was Mike Kitts falling down. It so could have happened when Freeman was jumping around juggling the ball at the baseline
December 5th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
Two quick fouls on Alabama has the crowd booing. let’s hope the “neutral” crowd doesnt get too rowdy.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Sapp throws a long outlet pass, too long, and Ewing smashes into the base of the hoop as he reaches for it. He’s okay though, and I don’t know how. That looked pretty hard.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Nice take by sapp
December 5th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
A friend of mine watching here with me is amazed by Sapp’s stop and go. “It was like he pressed pause”
December 5th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Looks like Alabama will use a timeout after turning the ball over. 17:30 left in the game, this timeout will be extended to a full. Hoyas up 2, 37-35. Hoyas ball after TO.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
im always afraid when sapp does that though, the refs are inconsistent with the palming call, and its a point of emphasis this year
December 5th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
stupid stupid stupid stupid
December 5th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
Foul on the Hoyas put Riley to the line shooting 3. He only made 1 though.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
These rims are unmerciful
December 5th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Great play by Wallace to grab a slightly errant pass and cut through the lane. His shot didn’t fall, but he’s shooting 2 free throws
December 5th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Fourth team foul on Alabama. Wallace makes both.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
bad turn of events there
December 5th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
These Hoyas need to take a lesson from Bowman and DJ Owens. Bad alleyoop pass– catch the ball and land!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
15:27 left, official timeout, Hoyas up one, 39-38. It will be Georgetown’s ball, as Alabama fumbles the loose ball out of bounds.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
There was a nice steal by Macklin, and a botched fast break, which led to oddly enough, an Alabama 3 on 1 - and an easy layup
December 5th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
that is one uglyass elephant
December 5th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
What a play by Wallace, but where’s the foul
December 5th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
12th turnover for the hoyas, this one a travel on freeman.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Double dribble on them. Everyone’s playing sloppy tonight.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
come on boys!! grab the ball and hold it
December 5th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
Thompson calls a 30 to try and settle the boys down. Let’s see how it works.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Way to go Jeremiah!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
critical from the resident!!!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Rivers sees an opening, and hits a three off the dribble to put the hoyas up 3. Great confident play by #5
December 5th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
Rivers answers their three was a three of his own to give the Hoyas the lead back, but then he gets whistled for the foul on the other end.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Foul called on Alabama brings about official time out with 11:50 to play. Hoyas up by 2, 46-44.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Yeah, but he just got fouled on the other end, so now it’s the official timeout.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Another turnover! Aaah!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
More free throws for Hibbert, he gets fouled after receiving a good pass from Freeman.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Free throws will be critical, Roy makes 2
December 5th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
come on hoyas! do better!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
There is the seventh foul on Alabama, so the Hoyas are shooting free throws the rest of the way. Like Big A said, the free throws will be critical.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
How is that an offensive foul??
December 5th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Three pointer by Riley gives Alabama the lead by one.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
That cursed rim!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:35 pm
Roy’s shot rolls out, but he’s shooting 2
December 5th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
come roy, need this free throw
December 5th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
1 of 2 for big Roy, and the game’s tied 49-49 with a little over 8 minutes to go
December 5th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
7:49 left, official time out, score tied at 49. There was a jump ball, there is some confusion again with the possession arrow, but the Hoyas got the ball to start the half so it should be Alabama ball.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
huggins is such a slime ball.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
critical 3 by sapp
December 5th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Nice DaJuan!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
ditto for dajuan!!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Hoyas seventh foul, 1-1 for Alabama.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
need the free throws dajuan
December 5th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Summers, Wright, Ewing , Rivers, and Hibbert the 5 on the floor for the hoyas with a little over 5 minutes left
December 5th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
come on now hoyas, two more free throws need need need need them
December 5th, 2007 at 8:47 pm
I cannot believe this. Roll in for once, please.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Alabama’s Riley hits another 3, putting the Crimson Tide up by 1, and JTIII calls a timeout
December 5th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Another three for Riley gives Alabama a one point lead with 3:52 left. Hoyas use a 30.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
I love DaJuan Summers!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Summers makes a three to momentariliy quiet the “neutral” crowd.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
After Summers’ 3, the Hoyas now switch to play man to man, after that zone defense was not doing enough to stop Riley from getting open 3’s
December 5th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
yeah, about as neutral as verizon center for a maryland game.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Heady play by Hibbert, gets the rebound, and calls timeout.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Jump ball goes to the Hoyas, still up by 2, and now this is the 4-minute official timeout.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Summers drives and gets tied up, but possession arrow points to Georgetown. Official timeout. Hoyas up by 2 with 2:38 left, 59-57.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
gonna need some points here boys
December 5th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Another big 3 by Jessie Sapp puts the Hoyas up 5, the biggest lead of the night for the Boys in Blue
December 5th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Hibbert controls tough pass, kicks it out to Sapp for a 3. Hoyas up 5. But, now a foul on Georgetown, Alabama shooting free throws.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Makes the first barely, so he gets a second.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Hoyas ball, 2 minutes left, Wallace, Sapp, Ewing, Summers, Hibbert on the floor. The guys you would expect.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Nice pass by Sapp to Roy, who makes a layup and gets fouled. What a difference it makes when #21 is on the floor.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
Hibbert makes a basket and gets fouled, but can’t convert from the line. Hoyas up 6, 64-58, 1:46 left, Alabama calls time out to set up a play.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
score?
December 5th, 2007 at 8:57 pm
ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY ROY!!!!!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
sorry, thanks
December 5th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Georgetown steals the ball, up 6, 64-58, with about a minute to play.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
Sapp steals a pass with 1:20 left, Hoyas have the ball up 6
December 5th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
After a flurry of chances, Summers will go to the line for two. Hoyas still up 6, about 50 seconds left.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
lets make these dajuan!
December 5th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Nice work there Hoyas– now let’s close it out from the stripe.
December 5th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Summers makes both. 50.8 seconds left.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Miss by Alabama, Sapp gets the rebound and gets fouled. 38.7 seconds left, Hoyas up 8 and Sapp shooting 2.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
Big rebound by Sapp after Riley’s three. Jessie is going to the stripe, up 8, with 38.7 to go
December 5th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Sapp misses both , but Alabama misses another three, Hoyas get the rebound, get the ball to Wallace, who will shoot two with 23.8 seconds left, Hoyas still up 8.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
close it out from the line boys!Q!!
December 5th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Hoyas win! Alabama makes a 2 with 3 seconds left, and Sapp dribbles out the last few seconds. Final score: Georgetown 70, Alabama 60.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Way to go Hoyas! Nice to win one on ESPN
December 5th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
big win boys. you fought hard and never quit. some critical three point shooting with the pressure on too. nice win.
December 5th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
OMG, I was soo nervous I couldn’t post! Good win, Hoyas!
