The Georgetown Hoyas remained undefeated with a 74-66 victory over the Washington Huskies in the John Wooden Classic in Anaheim, California. The victory marked the second time in five days that the Hoyas traveled to a neutral site and convincingly defeated a nationally ranked opponent. All five Georgetown starters finished in double digits, led by junior forward Julian Vaughn, who scored a career-high 18 points on 7 for 9 shooting from the field. Defensively, Georgetown overwhelmed the Huskies, forcing them into 25 turnovers.

The game was close throughout the entire first half, with neither team leading by three points through the first 14 minutes. Near the end of the first half, Georgetown extended to a six-point lead, before a 7-0 scoring run from Washington enabled them to take the lead in the final minute. A pair of free throws from Julian Vaughn gave the Hoyas a 30-29 halftime lead.

At the start of the second half, the Hoyas blew the game open, going on a 21-2 run to take a 20-point lead. Jason Clark scored seven of the 21 points, and Vaughn scored six, including a pair of dunks to energize the Hoya-partisan crowd. Washington managed to close the gap to nine with about a minute left, but Chris Wright made five of six free throws in a 20-second span to finalize the win.

For Washington, Quincy Pondexter scored a game-high 23 points, and Isiaiah Thomas scored 21. Both of those players entered the game averaging over 20 points per game, but no other Huskie player scored more than five points.

It’s exam week on the Hilltop, so Georgetown will not play again until Saturday when the Hoyas host Old Dominion at McDonough Gymnasium at 7:00 PM.
