Jacksonville In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody, Johnny here from the Verizon Center. We’re just about 40 minutes from the opening tip, and the Hoyas have just headed back to the locker room. Not too many fans here yet, and the student section is a little slimmer than usual. Maybe they’re all still studying for exams, and will try to show up closer to game time.
Here are your starting lineups:
For the Hoyas, your usual five: Wallace, Sapp, Summers, Ewing, and Hibbert.
For the Dolphins: Smith, Hardy, McMillan, Colbert, and Allen.
Keep your in-game thoughts coming in the comments.

Hey everybody, I can’t make it out to Verizon today so I’ll be listening to Chvotkin and chatting with you all. See you at tip off.
December 9th, 2007 at 12:38 pm
For those interested, I believe the Hoyas will be back in gray today. They’re wearing their full warmups now, but the first time they came out, they had just warmup tops and their usual gray shorts on.
December 9th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
Lets go Hoyas!! Let’s start the season with 7 straight.
December 9th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Hoyas just coming out for the last time before the starting lineups. “Atomic Dog” is playing, and the team is indeed wearing gray shorts
December 9th, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Chvotkin was dong the starting line-up and said that Hibbert tied Othella Harrington in blocked shots, with 201 rejects…200 more and he’ll have as many rejects as Syracuse!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Hoyas win the tip, and after working the clock down, Jessie misses an off balanced shot.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Ha, I didn’t think that was their ball
December 9th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
2 minutes into the game, Wallace makes a pull up jumper, and the score is 2-0
December 9th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
that wasn’t a foul on the block, it was the other guy that hit him in the face
December 9th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Hoyas winning 6-5 at the 16 minute timeout, and Rivers and Freeman will be checking in
December 9th, 2007 at 1:11 pm
3 lead changes already! A dream match-up for good ol’ Rich!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Two more turnovers for the Hoyas right there, who now have four after just 5 minutes.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:14 pm
Sloppy Hoyas. Get it together.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Macklin just checked in, and Freeman just hit his first attempt - a 3.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Way to go Jessie
December 9th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Nice hussle on one end, and nice shot on the other!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
After a three from Sapp, Jacksonville calls a timeout, Hoyas leading 12-5
December 9th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
The guhoyas live video online feed is not working, it says the event has not started…LIARS!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
Looked like Summers was going to have a huge jam in transition, but he was hit pretty hard and will go to the line for 2
December 9th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
COme on Hoyas, you gotta hit your layups
December 9th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
great play in tranistion - some bad passes but still a quick trip
December 9th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Ewing misses too many layups…the refs need to send him to the line like his papa.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
The Hoyas are really running today, they just had two quick layups in transition.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:22 pm
Bench Points? Seems like the second unit is doing great!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Nice block Jeremiah!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
8-0 run according to Rich, all bench?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Wallace gets an offensive rebound and a put back.
Tony, 7 out of Hoyas 20 points are from bench players
December 9th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Way to go Jonathan
December 9th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Whoa! I didn’t know J-Wal could jump that high!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Going into the 8 minute timeout, Hoyas are up 20-9, already with 7 different scorers
December 9th, 2007 at 1:28 pm
OK kids, it’s an 11-point lead right now…think it’ll get closer than this? I say it’ll never get closer than 9 points!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Ewing just scored two, to make it 8 different scorers
December 9th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
I don’t want to jinx anything. Play tough, don’t worry about leads.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
8 turnovers for the dolphins
December 9th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
No foul?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
Emily- Relax, the only thing that destroys dolphins more than the Hoyas are tuna nets.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Freeman and Hibbert checking back in to make it Rivers, Sapp, Freeman, Summers, and Hibbert
December 9th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
See? Now it’s only 8. Careful what you say Tony
December 9th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Interesting line-up…I like Hibbert with those other guys.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
Austin just hit another three, making him 2-2 from downtown
December 9th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
Oops, they cut it to 8.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
Same goes for Sapp
December 9th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
Sapp has been great from downtown lately…maybe he should be kneed in the back of the head every month or so!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
We’re bigger than them.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Summers’ quick release 3 put the Hoyas up 33-18 at the 4 minute timeout
December 9th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Nice outside shooting today Hoyas.. anyone have the numbers?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
Excellent shooting from long range. What are the official numbers?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Sorry for the delay guys:
@Emily and Tony:
Hoyas were shooting 45.5% on 5-11 from downtown, but they missed two threes since to make it only 38.5%
December 9th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
1st foul by the Hoyas at the 1:04 mark? Really?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Yep, that was the first foul, and with 9.5 seconds to go, Vernon picks up his and the team’s 2nd. Jacksonville has 5 team fouls
December 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Looks like the refs found out the same thing as you Tony
December 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Fouls: GU-2 fouls, Macklin-2 fouls
December 9th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Are the Hoyas using their fouls to give?
December 9th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Nice defense on the last possession by Wright and Summers, and the Hoyas head to the locker room up 39-21 at the half.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Excellent half…like I said, don’t let teams hang around.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:58 pm
Vespers time!
December 9th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Hoyas’ first possession of the half winds up empty, but the student section started singing “Happy Birthday” to Roy, which was nice
December 9th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
First dolphin FT’s
December 9th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
…and many mooooooore
December 9th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Way to go DaJuan
December 9th, 2007 at 2:06 pm
Coming out of Jacksonville’s timeout, the Hoyas are winning 46-22
December 9th, 2007 at 2:11 pm
3 for Rivers makes it 9 scorers for the Hoyas
December 9th, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Crawford set to make his first apearance today
December 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Pure 3 by Rivers and then very nice aggresive play by Freeman gives him the opportunity for a three point play
December 9th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Austin converts the free throw and leads all scorers with 13
December 9th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Aww, so close Tyler
December 9th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Crawford rims out a nice look from three point range, but he already made the scoreboard with his two free throws earlier on. So all ten players for the Hoyas have scored.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Nice play Jessie
December 9th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
Jessie drove into the lane, splitting some defenders with the help of a Crawford screen, and then dished off for a Macklin jam.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Oh my!!
December 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
After a quick inbound to mid court, Macklin gets an easy dunk, which he threw down with authority
December 9th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
Summers two free throws made him the leading scorer with 14. Not to be outdone, Freeman is set to check back in.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Whoa
December 9th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Nice block by Jessie leads to a fast break, where Macklin would have had a huge dunk, but instead he was fouled.
The refs somehow thought that was an intentional foul, but I think it could have gone just a personal.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Nice shooting Chris!
December 9th, 2007 at 2:34 pm
Jeremiah just fouled out with 6 points on 2-4 shooting
December 9th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Why do the refs want to prolong this game?
December 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Omar Wattad is checking into the game.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Come on Omar - lets make it 11 for 11
December 9th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
I dont’ think he had the ball when they called that timeout
December 9th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
Macklin just hit a free throw, and the crowd went wild
December 9th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Bryon Jansen just checked in for Freeman who most likely is the Hoyas’ leading scorer with 15
December 9th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Nice going Omar
December 9th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Omar Wattad just scored his first two points as a Hoya, and now 11 out of the 12 players today have scored. Just Jansen is left.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
A 3 for Omar!!
December 9th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
87-55 final score for the Hoyas. Next game is on Saturday at McDonough
