Jacksonville Recap
By Hoya HoopsThe Georgetown Hoyas remained perfect on the year, defeating the Jacksonville Dolphins by a final score of 87-55. The Hoyas were paced by freshmen Austin Freeman and Chris Wright, who combined for 29 points, 9 assists, and 4 steals in Georgetown’s most dominating performance of the young season.
The game started out a little sluggish, as the Hoyas went 1-5 with two turnovers in the first four minutes of the game. But Georgetown quickly settled down and rattled off eight straight to force the Dolphins to call an early timeout. The Hoyas then systematically expanded their lead to 18 by halftime, with eight different players contributing first half points. The second half was more of the same, as Georgetown looked to pick up the tempo, using a 19-4 run to go ahead by 37. Defensively, the Hoyas held Jacksonville’s leading scorer Ben Smith to 3-12 shooting from the field, as he ended the night with a team-high nine points, almost six points below his season average.
Georgetown, now 7-0, has this week off as finals loom over the heads of the players. The next game for the Hoyas will be against the Radford Highlanders in the friendly confines of McDonough Arena. That game is slated to begin at 7:30 PM on Saturday, December 15th.
