Notre Dame In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center.
We’re about an hour away from the opening tip and the student sections are already filling up. No Wright again today, as he’s wearing a suit and glasses, but the rest of the Hoyas are beginning to come out for some warmups.
Here’s what I got for you in terms of lineups:
The usual for the Hoyas: Wallace, Sapp, Freeman, Summers, and Hibbert.
For the Fighting Irish: Jackson, Ayers, McAlarney, Kurz, Harangody.
I’m not 100% of the accuracy of those lineups, as they’ve been known to be wrong before, but that’s all I’ve got for you this far in advance.
Stick with us, and keep your thoughts coming in the comments.

January 19th, 2008 at 11:34 am
Let’s go Hoyas, let’s treat them like we did last year.
January 19th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Here are the refs for today’s game: Bob Donato, Brian O’Connell, and Tim Clougherty.
And the new Jack’s here - the one with the crazy scary eyes from the Connecticut game and the first bit of the Radford game.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Let’s get back in that win column. Go Hoyas!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Hoyas win the tip, thanks to some hustle from Wallace, and Freeman misses a three, but the Hoyas get a team rebound to start the game.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
On the inbounds, they go into Roy who scores while getting hit on the arm. 2-0 Hoyas
January 19th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Way to go Roy!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Hoyas start out 0-3 from three point range. Not a good sign early on.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Just keep shooting, Hoyas. It’ll come. And play D.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Nice to see the backdoor cut still works, though
January 19th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Love that play. Keep hitting mid-range jumpers, Austin!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
nice free throw shooting Roy
January 19th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
That’s one of the strangest 3 point plays you’ll ever see. Sapp was stripped, it went through Harangody’s legs, Macklin had struggle picking it up, Harangody scrambled and bonked it towards Summers, who took it up and got fouled as his layup rattled its way down.
Only way to make it stranger will be if his free throw hits the front of the rim, the backboard, and then falls through. Here’s hoping.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
That’s okay. Nice hustle.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
i like the rebounding
January 19th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
0-5 from downtown for the Hoyas. Luckily Notre Dame’s not doing much better. Only 1-5 for the Irish
January 19th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Thats 0-6 now
January 19th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
like seeing Roy do that!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Great hustle from Roy diving to the ground on a loose ball gets the crowd into it. At the official timeout, it’s 15-14 Hoyas with 11:19 to go in the first.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
He got fouled pretty hard, but it’s good to see Roy trying to dunk the ball. He’ll be shooting two.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Keep playing tough, Roy
January 19th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Way to go Jessie. And nice pass to Roy whoever that was.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Roy’s been playing very well today. He’s taking it to them on offense, and his defense has been stifling - their big men have been doing absolutely nothing so far.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
This is going to be another one of those timeout - timeout situations again, isn’t it?
January 19th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
That would have been a 3 point play in the NBA. too bad theres no continuation in the Big East
January 19th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Way to play DaJuan!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Thanks for the play by play. On dial up way up in Maine, whats the score and time?
January 19th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
0-7 for three, but 2 offensive rebounds gives DaJuan a chance to get 3 the old fashioned way
January 19th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
finally!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Coach was asking for a travel there, there was a pushing fall on the Hoyas instead. “I’ll take that. I’ll take that.”
January 19th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Roy is definitely being more aggressive today. Besides his 13 points so far, he just added a block and a rebound before being subbed out to a loud ovation from the fans
January 19th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
carry? hmm
January 19th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
That three never had a chance. I know he was open, but Rivers never had a handle on that ball.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Vern too!
January 19th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
Foul on Rivers, Notre Dame will be shooting two when we return. But at the 4 minute timeout, Hoas are up 31-17. And Roy’s set to check back in.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Another interesting stat: Summers has 5 boards so far to go along with his 7 points. If only he can get one of his threes to fall, he’ll have a pretty impressive performance today.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
like those boards
January 19th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Celebrity sighting: Redskin and Hoya alum, Alex Buzbee is here wearing a Sean Taylor T-shirt.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Sapp finally hits a three, Hoyas are 2-11 from downtown.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Score? Time?
January 19th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
And also, Chris Clark of the Washington Capitals is here. With all the metro delays, maybe some Hoya fans will stay put to see Clark and the Caps take on the Florida Panthers tonight.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Way to play boys! Great transition D there.
January 19th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
@Sal:
Hoyas are up 38-25 with 7 seconds in the half. Jackson just got a foul to put Summers to the line shooting 1 and 1
January 19th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Sorry Sal, that was a typo, the Hoyas were up 36-25.
Now after those free throws, Hoyas head into the locker room leading 38-25.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
We’re set to start the second half, with the Hoyas inbounding the ball.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Let’s go Hoyas. Keep it up in the 2nd. But maybe add some threes!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
There’s Summers’ first three. He’s in double figures with 12
January 19th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Just like I asked!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Nice……..thanks Johnny!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Foul on Harangody, and then Roy inadvertently elbows him in the head, causing Brey to come out all the way onto the court. No hard feelings between the players though.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
whats the delay? let em play
January 19th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
There’s a lot of talking amongst the refs and coaches. But Hoyas should inbound this ball under the basket, up 41-7 with 18:50 to go.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
They do, and get a quick layup.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Nice work Hoyas! Caught them sleeping.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
DAJUAN!!!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Harangody’s really been shut down today. A horrible traveling there. Tried to take ten steps in his post move.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
WOW - great ROY
January 19th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Roy saw some space, and really wanted to make SportsCenter. He took a step and was going to throw down a powerful one handed slam on top of Zeller (ala the original Patrick Ewing). Instead, Zeller shoved him, and Roy settled for a layup and one.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Keep taking that shot Roy.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
At the 16 minute timeout, Hoyas are up 48-27 with 15:51 left in the game.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Hoyas break the press and call timeout across midcourt. Hoyas up 48-32 with 13:56 to go.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
That Roy free throw ended a Notre Dame 7-0 run.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
That charge on Harangody just adds insult to injury. I don’t have a clue why Roy flopped. He’s had his number all game.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
whats the free throw for?
January 19th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Looks like there was a technical on that play, as Wallace just collected a pair of free throws.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Three fouls on the Hoyas in a very short amount of time, and now they have 6 team fouls as we go into the 12 minute timeout, Hoyas leading 52-34
January 19th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
i like how Jackson’s been playing today
January 19th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Tory Jackson missed two free throws got his own rebound and lost the ball out of bounds. Now going the other way, Summers will be shooting one and one.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
You gotta hit that first one DaJuan!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
whered allthese fouls come from? Enough.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
AUSTIN!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Some quick points by Freeman and the score’s up to 57-36
January 19th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
But J-Wal still can’t seem to find his shot.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Coach Thompson II just hollered some instructions over to DaJuan as he came out from his vantage point on press row. DaJuan listened and nodded at the elder Thompson.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Vernons hook is falling–im happy
January 19th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Wallace’s drive pushes the lead to 23, 61-38, and Brey needs another timeout.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Great hustle, Tyler!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
He just shoved Patrick!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
What a great pass, Roy!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Seems it’s contagious. Sapp missed a freethrow, got his own rebound, and dribbled out of bounds just like Tory Jackson. At least Jessie made the first.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Sapp hits another three, to improve Georgetown’s shooting to a more acceptable 35% from behind the arc, and then Rivers forces a jump on the other end.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
That’s it Roy! Alleyoop doesn’t work - catch it, land, and go right back up. Nice work!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Foul on Summers will put the Irish on the line after the 4:00 timeout. With 3:59 to go, Hoyas are up 68-49.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Summers hits a pair of free throws to put his total up to 17 to go along with his 11 rebounds. He’s subbed out for Crawford, and that might be the end of his game today. Great work from DaJuan this afternoon.
January 19th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
nice roy!
January 19th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Sapp’s got it back!
January 19th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
rough day for harangody?
January 19th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Harangody had a pretty bad day today. He just fouled out, going 3-13 from the field, only reaching 13 points because of his good free throw shooting.
January 19th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Wattad is coming in now, subbing out Wallace, who had another offnight from the field.
January 19th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
I love Tyler.
January 19th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Hoyas just went up 84-63, and Thompson called a timeout with 42.1 seconds left. Looks like he’s bringing Jansen in now too.
January 19th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
There’s the final score: 84-65 Georgetown. Another solid performance against the Fighting Irish. Next home game is on Monday against Syracuse.
January 19th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Nice win Hoyas. Repeat on Monday
