BET Quarterfinals: Marquette vs. Notre Dame

By Hoya Hoops

In a conference where seven teams would fit right in in the Top 25, Marquette’s 98-79 victory over Notre Dame was an upset on paper only. Jerel McNeal scored a game-high 27 points as Marquette pulled away down the stretch.

Johnny’s Notre Dame Postgame Thoughts

By Johnny

Teams

Georgetown:
Last year, the Hoyas defeated the Fighting Irish by starting the game with sharp shooting, as they went 7 for 12 from behind the arc in the first half. They started the game with an 18-2 run and never looked back. On Saturday, it was Big Roy who took apart the Irish, as he scored 13 points in the opening 12 minutes. After the break, Georgetown seemed to regain its three-point touch, and there was no chance for Notre Dame at that point.

Notre Dame In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center.

We’re about an hour away from the opening tip and the student sections are already filling up. No Wright again today, as he’s wearing a suit and glasses, but the rest of the Hoyas are beginning to come out for some warmups.

Here’s what I got for you in terms of lineups:
The usual for the Hoyas: Wallace, Sapp, Freeman, Summers, and Hibbert.
For the Fighting Irish: Jackson, Ayers, McAlarney, Kurz, Harangody.

I’m not 100% of the accuracy of those lineups, as they’ve been known to be wrong before, but that’s all I’ve got for you this far in advance.

Stick with us, and keep your thoughts coming in the comments.

Have Faith

By Mike

Faith. It is a characteristic not too often required of a basketball player. Speed. Strength. Stamina. These are the virtues of a basketball player. But, faith? When the Georgetown Hoyas take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish tomorrow at Verizon Center, faith will be a central issue. Not because these are the two most prominent Catholic schools in the nation. Not because the winner will get to chant, “God’s on our side.” Not even because the fans need a boost of confidence in order to regain theirs. But, because of the backdoor cut.

Fighting the Irish

By Hoya Hoops

For last game’s prediction, we asked you to tell us who would play the most minutes in the game against Pittsburgh. Emily got it exactly right, as she guessed Jonathan Wallace would play 33 minutes to lead the team, which is exactly what he did. Nicely done.

This Saturday, Georgetown takes on a high-scoring Notre Dame team, and the Hoyas can ill-afford to have another poor defensive performance like they did against Pitt.

How many points will the Hoyas allow?

Our guess is that the Hoyas will keep Notre Dame to 59 points. Your turn.
