The Georgetown Hoyas lost their first conference game today, falling at Pittsburgh 69-60. Georgetown had a terrible shooting night from long-range, making only three 3-point shots out of 20 attempts. The Hoyas struggled in the first half to find any offensive rhythm and trailed for most of the first period. Pittsburgh led by four in the final seconds of the first half before Jonathan Wallace made a 45-foot shot at the buzzer to cut the lead to one at the half.

Pittsburgh made another run to start the second half, using inside points and transition threes to extend to a 12-point lead. The Hoyas’ reserves made key contributions during Georgetown’s final run, as Vernon Macklin, Jeremiah Rivers, Tyler Crawford, and Patrick Ewing all scored, cutting the deficit to only three. Although the Hoyas stayed within striking distance, they never managed to find the range from downtown.

Jonathan Wallace led the Hoyas with 14 points, Roy Hibbert had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Vernon Macklin scored 10 points off the bench making all five of his field goal attempts. The Hoyas return to Verizon Center on Saturday for a match-up against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at noon.
