Georgetown:
The Hoyas had been on a downward slide in March, losing five out of six heading into the NCAA Tournament. But, the team was entering the VCU game with Chris Wright scheduled to return and a chance for a new beginning. It was a perfect opportunity to forget the past and turn things around. Instead, they continued their plummet, losing 56-74 to the Rams in an uninspired performance.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas continue to struggle without Chris Wright, losing their fourth game in a row, certainly not the streak Georgetown wanted to carry into the NCAA Tournament. The offense was stagnant for most of the game with very little cutting or ball movement. The Hoyas also could not connect from beyond the arc, making just 5 of their 22 three point attempts, 22.7%.
With the offense unable to produce, the Hoyas turned to their defense to keep them in the game, but did not happen. Georgetown gave up too many open looks and did not create turnovers that can help jump start the offense. It seems like the morale of team is very low, as once one thing starts to go wrong, the wheels fall off. If will be interesting to see if Chris Wright can return for the NCAA Tournament and provide an energy boost to lift up the team and get the Hoyas playing they way they did in January and early February.

Georgetown:
Georgetown is a completely different team when they are without Chris Wright. Everybody knows that. However, on Senior Day, the depleted Hoyas still went out and fought, using toughness and hustle to nearly come away with victory. That energy was missing on Saturday, and once the second half started, the Hoyas never had a chance. It’s unclear how long Chris Wright will remain out with his left hand injury, but when he is not on the court, everybody has to step up their games, and that did not happen against Cincinnati.

Georgetown:
Georgetown came into this game in a tough spot. They were without Chris Wright – key playmaker for the Hoyas, #2 in scoring, top defender – and they were facing archrival Syracuse in a critical conference game with Big East Tournament seeding at stake. The Orange had a ten point lead at halftime, and at that point, the wheels really could have come off. But Georgetown fought back and had a real chance to win the game. Some things didn’t go their way at the end, and Chris was definitely missed, but the way the team responded could provide hope for the upcoming games without #4.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas suffered a serious setback, having one of their worst offensive nights in recent memory and losing to Cincinnati 58-46. At first glance, it seemed like this game couldn’t have been worse for Georgetown. The loss at home dropped the team back into the very crowded middle of the pack in Big East play, which was painful enough, but the manner in which the team lost made it even worse, as they couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn in the second half. Add to that the potential season-ending injury to senior leader and floor general Chris Wright, and this was an all around bad night. But, surprisingly, there are a few positives coming out of the game.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas bounced back from their mid-week loss to Connecticut to take care of business against South Florida, grinding out a 61-55 win. The win was impressive in that Georgetown was able to pull out a victory without much offensive production from Austin Freeman. Freeman played 34 minutes but scored just four points on 2-10 shooting, including 0-4 from beyond the arc, making him just 1-16 on three pointers in the past three games. Even though he was not connecting on shots he normally makes, he did contribute in other areas, and his eight rebounds were a game-high. Freeman’s scoring is certainly critical for Georgetown’s success, so while it was good that the Hoyas got the victory without it in Tampa, Georgetown fans are hoping that his slump comes to an end Wednesday against Cincinnati.

Georgetown:
And so the streak comes to an end. This game was like a lot of other ones over the past eight games, with the Hoyas not playing great basketball at times, but still able to hang around and be in the game late. However, the difference was this time Georgetown did not execute down the stretch, and the team did not make enough plays to pull out the win. It was a disappointing loss, but there were some positives to take from it, as well as areas where the team now knows they must improve on.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas overcame a nine point first half deficit to defeat Marquette 69-60 for their eighth straight conference win. Throughout this win streak, Georgetown has found a variety of ways to win, and in this game they found another, using defense and rebounding to limit Marquette’s opportunities, since the outside shots were not falling. The Hoyas started the game 0-7 on three pointers and were just 26% on threes for the game.
The poor shooting, combined with poor first half rebounding translated to Georgetown trailing 35-31 at the break. But, the Hoyas made key adjustments coming out of halftime, with an added emphasis on rebounding. Combine that with the team’s strong defensive performance, and for the second game in a row, Georgetown held their opponent to under 10 field goals in the second half, this time allowing Marquette just seven.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas gritted out a tough 64-56 win over arch-nemesis Syracuse to extend their win streak to seven games. It was not pretty, and the Hoyas struggled to score at various points throughout the game. However, they came up with big stops when they needed them, and made big plays down the stretch to earn the road victory.
Georgetown’s game plan offensively was to get the ball to the high post, then look for kick out passes to shooters for threes. The plan worked early, as Georgetown was getting plenty of open three-point looks, and started the game 4-5 from beyond the arc. However, as the game progressed, the outside shots stopped falling as Syracuse began extending their zone, making it harder to get the ball inside or move it around the perimeter.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas won their third straight one-possession game and sixth overall, barely eking out an 83-81 win over Providence. It was a familiar story for Georgetown: open a big lead, let the opponent back into the game, leave room for a dramatic finish. However, unlike the tough wins against Villanova and Louisville – two teams at the top of the conference – in this game the Hoyas struggled to put away Providence, one of the bottom dwellers in the Big East.
While Georgetown’s steady habit of squandering double digit second half leads proves to be a hard one to break, the defense was the more troublesome matter in this game. In the first half, Marshon Brooks was the only Friar who could score, yet Georgetown seemed not to make any adjustments to attempt to make him give up the ball, and Brooks ended up with 24 of his teams 34 first half points. Georgetown’s transition defense was also poor, as too often the Hoyas would score only to allow the Friars to get a quick basket on the other end before they could even set up. Providence was struggling to get anything going in the half-court offense, so giving them so many easy transition points was unacceptable.
