Tony’s Marquette Postgame Thoughts

By Tony

Teams

Georgetown:
It was quite a scenario heading into the final road game of the year for the Hoyas. A victory would put the Hoyas one home victory away from back to back Big East regular season titles, but a loss would drop them into a 3-way tie for second place. Georgetown trailed by double figures midway through the half when they finally regained focus and got in a good rhythm on both ends of the court.

Mike’s St. John’s Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas played uninspired basketball for nearly three-fourths of the game, but still managed a relatively easy victory. Turnovers and missed lay-ups hurt Georgetown and let St. John’s stay in the game. But, the Hoyas committed only one turnover over 10 minutes during a critical second half stretch to turn a tie game into a 13 point lead.

Mike’s Cincinnati Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
This game was just what the doctor ordered for Georgetown. After four closely contested games, the Hoyas had a relatively easy time with the Bearcats. It looked as though it might be another nail-biter, as Cincinnati cut the Georgetown’s lead to five a minute into the second half, but then the Hoyas pulled away thanks to a 16-4 run and coasted to a 20 point victory. With every game of maximal importance in the race for the Big East title, the Hoyas surely enjoyed the stress-free victory.

Mike’s Providence Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas needed a road win, and they got it. Things started looking bad for the Boys in Blue when Providence took a six point lead early in the second half. But the Hoyas hung tough and methodically pulled away, led by their sharp shooting and their defense. It is especially good to see Georgetown hitting from downtown, as we know what can happen when the shots don’t fall.

Tony’s Syracuse Postgame Thoughts

By Tony

Teams

Georgetown:
Coming into this game the Hoyas had not shown consistent play in their last four games. The trend of unexceptional play continued for Georgetown in the Carrier Dome with a very poor start. The game was an important one for the Hoyas, but their lack of intensity in the first half bordered on indifference. The team fought harder in the second half, but failing to give the right effort for prolonged periods nearly always spells defeat, especially on the road.

Mike’s Villanova Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
Georgetown gritted out another win, but the Hoyas have much to improve on. They committed 18 turnovers, some on the mild press, others due to poor passing. They also gave up 16 offensive rebounds, which made it hard to pull away. On the bright side, the team got a defensive stop when they needed one, and are able to walk away from this game with a victory.

Tony’s Louisville Postgame Thoughts

By Tony

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas followed the same pattern that led to their only other two losses of the season. In the second half the offense vanished and the defense deteriorated. The eight-point halftime lead evaporated quickly not because the Hoyas failed to score, but because Louisville started the second half 7 for 10 from the field. If the offense or defense struggles there is still hope; if the offense and defense are poor, it will lead to a long night.

Mike’s South Florida Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
A rather unimpressive win for Georgetown. With the bottom team in the conference coming to Verizon Center, perhaps the Hoyas failed to take their opponent seriously. They started sloppily, and only after halftime did the Hoyas finally start to put South Florida away. Also, for the second straight game, Georgetown took a sizeable lead midway through the second half, only to falter and let their opponents back into the game, this time going four minutes without a field goal. The Hoyas need to play hard for the full forty minutes if they hope to be successful against Louisville this Saturday.

Mike’s Seton Hall Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas showed what it takes to win down the stretch, turning a five point game with under seven minutes left into an eighteen point blow-out five minutes later, led in large part by a strong performance from Patrick Ewing Jr. The only glaring problem with Georgetown’s play on Saturday was the season high 21 turnovers. The Hoyas have a history of struggling against full-court pressure, and although they limited the turnovers in the second half, two more came off the press near the end of the game. Had it been an eight point game instead of 18, I hope the Hoyas would have been a bit more careful with the ball.

Tony’s Seton Hall Postgame Thoughts

By Tony

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas are starting to look like a very good team. They have managed to win a few games when they could have easily lost, and they’re putting inferior teams away - that’s what happened against Seton Hall. In the second half, Georgetown took better care of the basketball and limited the easy baskets for the Pirates. Slowly and surely, almost methodically, the Hoyas pulled away for a comfortable victory against a confident team that had won five in a row.
