Me, Myself, and I

By Tony

As a fan, I have a sort of split personality. It’s not exactly a mental disorder; it’s more like the little angel and devil you see on people’s shoulders in cartoons. The little devil always gets furious when the Hoyas teams lose and thinks that the sun will never come up again. The little angel always remains positive (naturally) and finds plenty of reasons why the team will turn it around in the next game. I have to try and take the valid points from both of them to come up with the most reasonable position. Since Georgetown doesn’t play for one whole week, we have plenty of time to reflect on everything and come up with the best way to handle the team’s struggle. Today, you’ll hear from the little devil guy, tomorrow the angel of hope will give his thoughts, and later this week I’ll be back to try to give an accurate analysis of what the Hoyas can do without being too cranky or too rosy.

Mike’s Cincinnati Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Georgetown Hoyas continued their tailspin, losing for the sixth time in seven games, including two out of three at home. The Hoyas continued their trend of starting off slow, but still eventually took a 12 point lead early in the second half. However, the Hoyas could not close out the Bearcats and allowed their opponents back in the game. Georgetown also failed to execute offensively down the stretch, turning the ball over and allowing the shot clock to get too low before getting a look at the basket. The result was another disappointing loss.

Cincinnati Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas lost in overtime to the Cincinnati Bearcats 64-62. In the final seconds of regulation with the score tied, Cincinnati was forced into a difficult three-pointer that was off the mark, and Georgetown’s DaJuan Summers missed a three-pointer in transition at the buzzer that would have won the game. In the overtime period neither team scored a field goal, but the Hoyas went 3-6 from the stripe. After another defensive stop trailing by two at the end of overtime, the Hoyas were forced into a desperation three from Austin Freeman. The shot was contested and well off the mark. The final buzzer sounded as players were battling for the rebound. For Georgetown, the loss is their sixth in their last seven games, and their third home loss of the season.

Cincinnati In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, Johnny here courtside at Verizon Center. It’s the Hoyas’ first repeat opponent as the Boys in Gray will have a chance to avenge their devastating loss to these Cincinnati Bearcats 11 days ago.

We’ve still got about forty minutes to go until tipoff, but there already looks like there are more students here than there were against Rutgers on Tuesday night. With one win under their belt, Georgetown is looking to get a winning streak going on to help them get closer to 50% in the league.

You know the drill - post your thoughts and questions in the comments. I’ll be checking in with more info in just a bit.

Scoring Once Again

By Hoya Hoops

Last time, we asked you to tell us which Hoya would lead the team in scoring against Rutgers. Jessie Sapp had 11 points to lead Georgetown to a low-scoring 57-47 victory over the Scarlet Knights. Unfortunately, for the second game in a row, no one correctly guessed the leading scorer. Better luck next time, everyone.

Speaking of next time, as the Hoyas turn their attention to Cincinnati, we figured we’d give this question one more go around, in the hopes that the third time’s a charm.

Who will lead the team in scoring, and with how many points?

DaJuan Summers was injured in the first half of Georgetown’s last meeting with Cincinnati and didn’t return. We think he’ll want to have an impact on this game, scoring 18 points. Put your predictions in the comments, and let’s see if we can actually get a winner to this question.

The Panic Button

By Tony

You know how everybody always says, “It’s not time to hit the panic button yet”? Well, guess what. Someone on the Hoyas needs to hit the panic button right now! Stay the course, keep running the offense, fight through it, will all lead to more losses and a real possibility of an N.I.T. bid. With as much progress as the program has made in the last three seasons, those letters should make every Hoya fan shudder.

Johnny’s Cincinnati Postgame Thoughts

By Johnny

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas are in big trouble right now. No question about it. Four straight losses, three straight conference losses, undefeated Marquette on the road up next. They have not been executing down the stretch lately, which had been a characteristic of all Thompson coached teams dating back to his days at Princeton.

Cincinnati:
Cincinnati, on the other hand, could execute down the stretch. And unlike Seton Hall, who left the door open for Georgetown in crunch time, the Bearcats were ready to crush Georgetown’s hopes in the waning minutes with bigtime shots and made free throws.
