Georgetown:
In this critical game for their postseason hopes, the Hoyas started flat, not looking at all focused, turning the ball over and allowing Louisville to jump out to a sizeable first half lead. The team then regained focus and scrapped to get back into the game, but spotting one of the best teams 17 points is not a formula for success. Neither is shooting 31% from the field in the second half.

Georgetown:
The Georgetown Hoyas continued their tailspin, losing for the sixth time in seven games, including two out of three at home. The Hoyas continued their trend of starting off slow, but still eventually took a 12 point lead early in the second half. However, the Hoyas could not close out the Bearcats and allowed their opponents back in the game. Georgetown also failed to execute offensively down the stretch, turning the ball over and allowing the shot clock to get too low before getting a look at the basket. The result was another disappointing loss.

Georgetown:
Georgetown needed to get this victory, so the most important goal was accomplished. But, for the third straight game, the team started sluggishly, looking stagnant on offense and allowing too many points on defense. However, there were a few positives, too. The freshmen showed they are maturing, and the 21-2 run showed that the Hoyas can still shut teams down defensively and break a game open. Unfortunately, they also have to work on closing out games.

The Georgetown Hoyas are a young team. That’s not an excuse for losing, but it does help to explain some of the problems the Hoyas have had this season, especially in their recent back-to-back losses. The players have not looked flustered when things started to slip away, but their execution during those critical stretches was not at its best. That failure to be at their sharpest in the most important moments highlights the biggest difference between this year’s team and last season’s.

Georgetown:
The Hoyas struggled offensively in this game. There were possessions where the team looked stagnant. This was partly due to the various lineups Coach Thompson used, giving more minutes to Clark and Sims. However, even when it was the starters in the game, the team was not getting good looks, and the looks they got did not fall. That ended being the difference in the game.

After an impressive season opener followed by an even better second game, the word on the street is that Hoya Freshman Greg Monroe is a walking NBA Lottery pick. When you’re on the street though, you have to be careful what you listen to, or it might amount to what you can step in on the street. At the post game press conference after Monroe’s impressive line against Drexel, the initial barrage of questions was about Monroe. The questions were along the lines of, “Is there anything Monroe could possibly improve upon?” and “Do you think he’s the best player in college basketball, ever?” Coach Thompson was quick to point out that Monroe has only played two games, and even though he has good skills and awareness, he has a long way to go. Many reporters will dismiss that as a coach downplaying his star player, to prevent opponents from knowing how good he is. Fortunately for the Hoyas, Coach Thompson is a little more focused on the team’s continuing progress than the reporters are.

Georgetown:
What a difference a game makes. After a lackluster performance in the season opener, the Hoyas came out focused and ready for their second game. The team jumped out of the gate, taking a 15-2 lead to start the game and never looked back. During that opening stretch, the Hoyas had suffocating defense, as the Dragons went 0-5 and committed two turnovers in the five minute span. And while the result was never in doubt, the team did a good job of not letting up, especially on the defensive end. Georgetown ended up with 13 steals to go along with four blocks, as Drexel shot a paltry 24.5% from the field on the day.
