The Marquette Golden Eagles defeated Seton Hall 67-54 to move on to the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. Both sides were cold from beyond the arc, shooting a combined 19% on three pointers. More »
Georgetown:
The Hoyas showed what it takes to win down the stretch, turning a five point game with under seven minutes left into an eighteen point blow-out five minutes later, led in large part by a strong performance from Patrick Ewing Jr. The only glaring problem with Georgetown’s play on Saturday was the season high 21 turnovers. The Hoyas have a history of struggling against full-court pressure, and although they limited the turnovers in the second half, two more came off the press near the end of the game. Had it been an eight point game instead of 18, I hope the Hoyas would have been a bit more careful with the ball. More »
Georgetown:
The Hoyas are starting to look like a very good team. They have managed to win a few games when they could have easily lost, and they’re putting inferior teams away - that’s what happened against Seton Hall. In the second half, Georgetown took better care of the basketball and limited the easy baskets for the Pirates. Slowly and surely, almost methodically, the Hoyas pulled away for a comfortable victory against a confident team that had won five in a row. More »
The Georgetown Hoyas extended their conference winning streak to five games, defeating Seton Hall 73-61 and snapping the Pirates’ five game winning streak in the process. Jessie Sapp scored a team high 17 points in the win and Hibbert and Ewing each added 16. With the win, the Hoyas remain in sole possession of first place in the Big East with an 8-1 conference record halfway through the Big East schedule. More »
Hey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center for the Big East Clash of the Georgetown Hoyas and the Seton Hall Pirates.
We’re still an hour away from tipoff, but there are a lot of fans piling in. I was talking with a couple of students outside before the gates opened, and Anne Mary Ciminelli and Rebecca Shapiro say that they’ve been here since 8:15 this morning, waiting to get into the game. Well they’re in now, and they have some pretty good seats right by the tunnel to the Hoyas’ locker room.
The players are warming up now, but I don’t see DaJuan out there yet. Since everyone else is shooting around, it doesn’t look good for an appearance by Summers, but I’ll let you know. CORRECTION: DaJuan has just stepped out, in full warmups, to shoot around with the team. An appearance by Summers looks significantly better now.
And being Coaches vs. Cancer week, JTII and company will be wearing sneakers today along with their suits.
I’ll check back in with lineups and any updates as soon as they come in.
In preparation for tomorrow’s game, we talked with Paul Tyahla from Pirates Plank, a NJ.com blog about Seton Hall basketball. In exchange for some in-depth information about the Hoyas (which you can find here), Paul gave us a rundown of this year’s Pirates team. Here’s what he had to say: More »
Here’s a Rival Reels video we’ve made for the upcoming Seton Hall game. Captain Jack fights the Seton Hall Mascot in “Pirates of the Caribean: Curse of the Black Squirrel.”
For last night’s game, we asked you to predict how well Patrick Ewing Jr. would do in his return to Madison Square Garden. Ewing ended the night with nine points and three rebounds. Hoya Gray was the closest, so congratulations!
This Saturday, the Hoyas face a hot Seton Hall side which has won five conference games in a row. The Hoyas have a four-game winning streak of their own at stake. This game will come down to protecting the hoop, as the stalwart Hoyas’ defense will try to slow down the high-scoring Pirates.
How many points will the Hoyas allow against Seton Hall?
