We’ve got half an hour until Rivalry Week continues on ESPN as the Georgetown Hoyas face the Syracuse Orange. Both sides have been struggling since the last time these two teams met, but as usual, expect an intense game in the Carrier Dome.
I’ll be filling you in with updates as soon as I can, and you can keep your thoughts coming in the comments. It’s a huge game for Georgetown, as the out come of this afternoon’s matchup could determine the rest of the season, so make sure to keep your attention on the game and keep your comments coming.

There hasn’t been a Georgetown-Syracuse game played in the Carrier Dome with the stakes this high for a long time. It is possible that this meeting has the most riding on it of all the regular season games ever played at the Carrier Dome in this rivalry. A loss for either team could easily result in an NIT appearance. Both teams will be desperate to avoid such a fate. With that in mind, let’s take a look back at some of the more memorable Georgetown-Syracuse games played at Syracuse. If you have any memories of games that didn’t make our list, feel free to leave us a comment.

Before last week’s Cincinnati game, we asked you to tell us who would lead the team in scoring. Greg Monroe had 13 points to lead the Hoyas, but the team came up short, losing 64-62 in overtime. Zo was the only one to guess Greg, so Zo wins this round. Good work.
This Saturday, the Hoyas take on Syracuse in a rematch of the January 14th meeting, which the Hoyas won 88-74. Sadly, the Hoyas have won only one game in the month that followed. Syracuse has been in a similar rut, with only two wins over that span. Now, the two bitter rivals face each other with the fate of their seasons hanging in the balance. So, we pose this question to you.
How many points will be scored?
We feel like the Carrier Dome is home to a lot of shootouts, so we are gonna say 160 total points. Put your guesses in the comments.

You’ve heard from my negative side. You’ve heard from my positive side. Today, here is what I think, having weighed both sides of the argument, on what the Hoyas must do to succeed:
There are certain characteristics that you never know you possess until the moment they surface. If you live all your life on the ground, you might say you don’t have a fear of heights. But then when you find yourself on your first hot-air balloon ride, you might discover that you are terrified of heights. There are a lot of characteristics that have this unknowable component, including bravery.

For Hoya fans, there was a lot to enjoy in the 88-74 victory over Syracuse: Monroe’s complete performance, Freeman’s hot shooting, the bench performance in general, Clark and Mescheriakov specifically, Syracuse’s futility - you name it. My favorite part, however, was DaJuan Summers. Not his game-high 21 points and not the second half three-pointers he made to keep the Orange at bay. My favorite play was his steal, dunk, plus the intentional foul, and his technical foul.

Teams
Georgetown:
In the last few games, the Hoyas had had trouble starting games. They would come out flat and fall into holes early. That was not the case yesterday, as Georgetown came out ready to play. It took a few minutes to get accustomed to Syracuse’s defense, but once they did, they picked it apart, getting open three point looks that they nailed. The Hoyas took an 18 point lead into the break. They started the second half a little sloppy, allowing Syracuse to go on a 10 point run, but one of the benefits of a large halftime lead is that you can come out of the break slow and still be in the game. The Hoyas quickly regained control of the game and coasted to victory. Perhaps the Providence game taught the team a few lessons.
