The Georgetown Hoyas lost in overtime to the Cincinnati Bearcats 64-62. In the final seconds of regulation with the score tied, Cincinnati was forced into a difficult three-pointer that was off the mark, and Georgetown’s DaJuan Summers missed a three-pointer in transition at the buzzer that would have won the game. In the overtime period neither team scored a field goal, but the Hoyas went 3-6 from the stripe. After another defensive stop trailing by two at the end of overtime, the Hoyas were forced into a desperation three from Austin Freeman. The shot was contested and well off the mark. The final buzzer sounded as players were battling for the rebound. For Georgetown, the loss is their sixth in their last seven games, and their third home loss of the season.

Georgetown started the game without much energy as the Bearcats scored the games first eight points. Eventually the Hoyas woke up and put together a run to take the lead at halftime 26-21. In the second half, Georgetown led by as many as 12, but in spite of solid defense, the Hoyas’ turnovers and an inability to execute allowed Cincinnati to remain withing striking distance. Much as they did in their meeting 11 days earlier, Cincinnati outperformed Georgetown in crunch time, overcoming a five point deficit in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime. Cincinnati’s Deonta Vaughn had a game high 16 points, while Greg Monroe led the Hoyas with 13. In overtime, though, Greg went 0-3 from the field and missed his first three free throw attempts.

The Bearcats complete the season sweep of the Hoyas and improve to 6-5 in Big East play, while Georgetown falls to 4-7. The Hoyas are out of action for one full week; they travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange next Saturday at 12:00 pm.
