Not much news going on in Hoyaland right now, so this is what we’ve got for you.
Dikembe Mutombo logged the most minutes of the season on Friday when he played 35 minutes at Golden State. The Rockets won 113-109 and Deke had 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks.
In Germany, Jonathan Wallace and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje’s EWE Baskets Oldenburg beat Giants Düsseldorf 98-96 and Brandon Bowman’s Telekom Baskets Bonn beat Giants Nördlingen 67-65. Our German’s not too good, but it doesn’t look like any of the Hoyas hit a last second shot.
Here’s the audio I picked up after the Villanova game. Unfortunately, some of the questions/answers had some crazy feedback, so I left those out. The rest is embedded below.
On Saturday, the Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Villanova Wildcats 56-54 in Philadelphia. With their third win against a team in the Top 10, Georgetown has revitalized their quest for an NCAA Tournament bid. They’ll have to keep winning though, as they play St. John’s in New York City on Tuesday.
Two of the Top 3 teams in the nation lost this week with #1 Pittsburgh losing at Providence and #3 Oklahoma falling to Kansas.
Kevin Durant sprained his ankle in the Thunder’s game on Friday against the Mavericks. Without his sophomore teammate, Jeff Green had back to back double-doubles as he put up 28 and 12 in the overtime loss at Dallas and then followed that up with 27 and 10 in the victory at Memphis.

**Edited: Tyler Crawford was not signed; he was just on trial with the team. No word yet on his future status with the team.**
The USA men’s basketball team took home the Gold Medal in the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games. While there were no Hoyas on the roster, Jeff Green practiced with them in preparation for the tournament and here’s what he had to say about the experience.
Jonathan Wallace has earned himself a spot on the Washington Wizards’ summer roster. Wallace attended the Washington’s mini-camp held at the Verizon Center this past week, and he impressed the Wizards staff enough to keep him on the team heading to Las Vegas for the 2008 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports. The Wizards play the Portland Trailblazers tonight at 8:00pm, and the game can be seen on NBA TV and Comcast SportsNet
