- Michigan State beat Connecticut in the first game of the Final Four. With the entire city of Detroit behind them, the Spartans upset the Huskies, 82-73, to advance to their first championship game since they won it in 2000.
- In the other semifinal, North Carolina defeated Villanova 83-69. They’re set to face Michigan State in the Championship game tonight on CBS with tipoff scheduled for 9:21.
- Allen Iverson came back to play for Detroit after sitting out a month with a back injury. But apparently, he still wasn’t healthy enough, and Detroit announced that he would sit out the rest of the season.
- Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder traveled to Indianapolis yesterday to play Roy Hibbert and the Pacers. Roy had 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning campaign, while Jeff had 11 points in the loss.

- On Saturday, the Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Villanova Wildcats 56-54 in Philadelphia. With their third win against a team in the Top 10, Georgetown has revitalized their quest for an NCAA Tournament bid. They’ll have to keep winning though, as they play St. John’s in New York City on Tuesday.
- Two of the Top 3 teams in the nation lost this week with #1 Pittsburgh losing at Providence and #3 Oklahoma falling to Kansas.
- Kevin Durant sprained his ankle in the Thunder’s game on Friday against the Mavericks. Without his sophomore teammate, Jeff Green had back to back double-doubles as he put up 28 and 12 in the overtime loss at Dallas and then followed that up with 27 and 10 in the victory at Memphis.
- One week after sitting behind the bench during the game against Louisville, Jonathan Wallace has a brand new team in Europe. He’ll be playing for EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany. Oldenburg is also home to Hoya alum Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje. [Press Release via HoyaTalk]

- The Georgetown Hoyas overcame a 16-point second half deficit to force overtime the Carrier Dome. They couldn’t seal the victory, though, as they fell to Syracuse 98-94 in overtime.
- None of the teams in the Top 5 lost over the weekend, but #5 Louisville fell to Notre Dame on Wednesday, 90-57. The Cardinals took their revenge on unsuspecting DePaul by crushing the Blue Demons 99-54 yesterday.
- In the NBA, it was All-Star Weekend, and on Friday Jeff Green scored 13 points for the sophomores in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge as his side won 122-116. Oklahoma City teammate Kevin Durant led all scorers with 46 points as he carried the sophomores to victory.
- Allen Iverson did not have a spectacular All-Star game as the East lost, and he only ended up with two points and three assists.

Just a quick reminder that we’ve reached the NBA’s All-Star Weekend, and plenty of Hoyas are going to be in on the festivities.
- Tonight at 9:00, Jeff Green and Thunder teammate Kevin Durant will be playing on the Sophomore team in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge. The game will be shown nationally on TNT.
- Also tonight at 9:00, Patrick Ewing, Jr. of the D-League’s Reno Bighorns will be participating in the Dunk Contest as a part of the 2009 Dream Factory. Patrick had a great showinglast year at the college Dunk Contest during Final Four weekend as he came away with second place.
- Allen Iverson will be participating in the NBA All-Star game at 8:00pm on Sunday night. This will be Iverson’s 10th All-Star game, and his 9th time as a starter. The only year he did not start was in 2007, his first year in the Western Conference, after being traded to Denver, but he did not play at all in that game due to injury.

- The Hoyas lost their fifth straight game on Saturday, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles, 94-82, who along with Louisville remain unbeaten in the Big East.
- Two Top 5 dropped another game, as Duke lost to Wake Forest in the final seconds and Pittsburgh fell to Villanova. Both of those games were on Wednesday night.
- Jeff Green’s Oklahoma City Thunder lost to the Sacramento Kings last night 122-118 in overtime. At the end of regulation, though, with his team down by three, Jeff was at the free throw line to shoot two. He made the first, intentionally missed the second, got his own rebound, and scored to force overtime. You can check out the video here: [NBA.com]

- The Georgetown Hoyas traveled to New Jersey on Sunday to play Seton Hall, and they lost their third straight game. After the 65-60 loss, the Hoyas are now 3-4 in the Big East.
- Four teams in the Top 10 lost games this week, highlighted by undefeated #1 Wake Forest’s 78-71 loss to Virginia Tech at home.
- On Wednesday, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Golden State Warriors 122-121. With 1.6 seconds on the clock, the Thunder, down by 1, inbounded the ball to Jeff Green who knocked down a jumpshot off the glass as the clock expired.
- Last week, after considering a comeback like fellow Hoya Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning officially announced his retirement. Last year, after the injury which basically ended his career, we talked with some Mourning experts about Alonzo’s legacy.

Jeff Green, Roy Hibbert, Jonathan Wallace, Patrick Ewing, Jr., and Tyler Crawford were the Georgetown Basketball Class of 2008. Ewing transferred in from Indiana after two years in Bloomington, and Jeff Green left school after his junior season to enter the NBA Draft. Still, these players and that class as a whole did as much for Georgetown Basketball as any group ever.

- The Georgetown Hoyas beat the Memphis Tigers on Saturday in overtime 79-70. It was the first ranked opponent that Georgetown defeated this season, and it improved on Coach Thompson III’s incredible close game record.
- Two teams in the Top 10 lost over the weekend, as #8 Tennessee fell to the Temple Owls 88-72 on Saturday, and then #4 Gonzaga was defeated by the University of Arizona 69-64 Sunday night. Both of the losing teams played in the Old Spice Classic with Tennessee falling to Gonzaga in the Championship game back in November.
- Roy Hibbert earned his first NBA start on Saturday in the Pacers’ 121-103 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Roy went 4-7 from the field to pick up 8 points in his 18 minutes. The Pacers play the Wizards tonight at the Verizon Center, and hopefully Roy can start once again at his old home court.
- Jeff Green had a season high 33 points in Oklahoma City’s losing effort against the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder have only managed to win two games all season and are sitting at the bottom of the league standings.

- The Georgetown Hoyas defeated American, 73-49, on Saturday. The Hoyas will face the Savannah State Tigers tonight at 7:30.
- The Michigan Wolverines, coached by former Big East boss John Beilein, upset #4 Duke 81-73 on Saturday in Ann Arbor.
- In another Top 10 upset, Ohio State beat #7 Notre Dame 67-62. Even though the game took place in Indianapolis, it was in the new Lucas Oil Stadium and was technically a neutral site, so the Irish’s unbeaten streak at home remains intact.
- In the NBA, Jeff Green scored 21 points in the Thunder’s 105-99 loss to Miami. Jeff shot 50% from the field and had nine rebounds to go with his four assists, one steal, and one blocked shot.

- The first set of polls was released over the weekend, and Georgetown came in #22 in the AP Poll and #18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. In both polls, the Big East had 7 teams in the Top 25.
- The Indiana Pacers won their first game of the season on Saturday, defeating the Boston Celtics 95-79. Roy played 12 minutes and scored 5 points off of 2-3 shooting. Coach Jim O’Brien had this to say of Hibbert: “I thought Roy did some good things. He needs to maintain his focus. His work ethic is great and I’m very, very pleased with how he’s developing.”
- Jeff Green’s team also earned their first win this weekend, and for them it was the first win with their new name, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-85 last night. Jeff had 13 points and three assists, but he missed two critical free throws that would have pushed the lead to five with seven seconds left in the game.
- Patrick Ewing was upset to find out that the Knicks had cut his son and said that he is looking into opportunities in Europe or the D-League. Meanwhile, the New York Post is reporting that the Knicks may waive Stephon Marbury today as Knicks President Donnie Walsh and Marbury are scheduled to meet today. Marc Berman of the Post speculates that if they waive Marbury, the Knicks may re-sign Patrick Ewing, Jr.
