The Georgetown Hoyas lost their fifth game in a row - and fourth in conference play - falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles 94-80. Jerel McNeal led all scorers with 26 points, while the Hoyas were led by DaJuan Summers’ 22. In the first half, both teams demonstrated excellent offenseive efficiency. The Hoyas shot 68% from the field, including 6-8 from beyond the arc. Marquette shot 59% in the first half and the score was tied at 42 at the intermission.
In the second half, Marquette increased the defensive pressure forcing the Hoyas into tougher shots and more turnovers. The Hoyas turned the ball over 17 times in the game. Meanwhile, Georgetown could not slow the Golden Eagles’ offense which continued to light it up, eventually opening up a 16 point lead.
The Hoyas finish their three-game road trip with an 0-3 record and return to the Verizon Center on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM when they will host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Georgetown is now 3-6 in Big East play exactly halfway through the conference schedule.
