Providence In-Game Thread
By MikeHello, everyone. Today is President’s Day, and the Hoyas will try to honor our current Commander-in-Chief by getting a “W” in today’s game against Providence. The Friars are on the wrong side of the cut-off to make it to the Big East Tournament, so you can expect Providence to play hard, especially on their home court.
Tip-off is about 30 minutes away, so keep it right here. Feel free to post your thoughts, as the Hoyas look to stay atop of the conference standings.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
I would rather honor the following presidents, who also have W’s in their names:
George Washington
William H. Harrison
William McKinley
William Taft
Woodrow Wilson and
Warren G. Harding
That is all.
and Go HOYAS
February 18th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
alright hoyas, need a strogn bounce back today, let’s kill em
February 18th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

You forgot the most important one. SFS Class of ‘68, Georgetown’s own William J. Clinton!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Drats! Well then, let’s win one for the Clinton!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Starting 5 for Hoyas: Wallace, Freeman, Sapp, Summers, Hibbert
For the Friars: Xavier, Efejuku McKenzie McDermott, Hanke
February 18th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Hoyas win the tip, then turn it over and give up a layup on the other end.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
15:39 left in the first half, 7-4 Hoyas lead at the first time out.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
The Hoyas are playing OK so far, but the refs seem to be letting them play. We will have to be strong with the ball, already we’ve had a few shots “blocked.” Stick with it, Hoyas.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
sapp, why save it right to their guy??
February 18th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
finally, some one metions the Hoyas aren’t 100% this year either…thank you, doris burke!

February 18th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Foul on Hibbert, his first, team’s first.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
What is crowd complaining about on that foul? that it wasn’t intentional?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:14 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 4:16 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
hahahahahhaa dude pulled down to hard on the rim
February 18th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Steal by the Hoyas leads to a transition alley-oop. Rivers provided the alley, Summers the oop, and the Friars take a 30 second timeout. Georgetown on top 20-13 with 9 minutes to play in the first.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
send it in!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Foul off the ball on Macklin, his first team second.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
summers need to make that, it’s a 10 foot jumper
February 18th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
7:32 left in the first, Providence’s ball trailing by 5. The Hoyas are starting to look a little sloppy on the offensive end. Hopefully they can get a stop and settle down a little on the next possession.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Block called on Patrick Ewing, his first, team’s third.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
toooo easy for them, make them work to score
February 18th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
nice roy!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Block called on Hibbert, his second foul, fourth on the team.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
come on summers, play defense dont go fot the steal there
February 18th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
ESPN has fulfilled the Congressionally mandated “Big Stiff” reference. How far can the “Wallace has started every game after waking on” story?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Hanke picks up his second, the sixth on the team, Macklin will shoot two.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
big shot by jwal
February 18th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Reggie Greenwood in no position to make that call
February 18th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Foul on Wallace, his first, team’s fifth. Efejuku shooting two.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
If Macklin ever makes both free throws, is that one of the signs of the Apocalypse?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
summers might not be hitting the threes, but at least he can still throw it down!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
3:22 left in the first, Hoyas up one, but Providence shooting two free throws on the other side of the break.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
big shot for jwal, needed that 3
February 18th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
man, this guy is going off today
February 18th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
hoyas got a break there
February 18th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
jeez, hoyas missing everything
February 18th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Wow, that is a horrible charge call.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
How can that be a charge? He was under the rim?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Eew. 12-34 shooting for the Hoyas.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Rivers commits his first foul, two more free throws coming for Providence.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Hoyas struggle to inbound the ball after the made free throw. Thompson uses his free 30 second time out. Hoyas trailing by one with 22 seconds left.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
really need the free throws here jeremiah
February 18th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
wow, refs going crazy on the charge calls today, that’s prob not a foul, def not a charge.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Rivers misses a jumper at the buzzer, and the Hoyas go into the locker room trailing, 30-29.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Why is Rivers on the court on that play?
February 18th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
The Hoyas need to go back to Roy in the second. The second foul on him hurt us. Providence is not really shooting that well. Efejuku is killing us but if we can contain him, we should be fine.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Alright hoyas, lets take over right now, start to pull away
February 18th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Providence starts off the second half with the ball, and Hibbert starts off the half with a block.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
thats right, pound it in to roy, just not when hes running down the court
February 18th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
nice take by austin
February 18th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
free throws aer killing us today
February 18th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Six point lead for Providence, Coach Thompson calls timeout.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
we are freaked out. this team is not good. we should be dominating, instead we give them easy transition baskets and wide open threes. if we dont pick it up we are in huge trouble
February 18th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
Wallace misses a jumper and Ewing commits a foul on the other end. Media timeout, Hoyas still down six, Friars ball.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
how many times are they gonna mention the damn syracuse game?
February 18th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
big big lift, tyler
February 18th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
booyaaaaaaaa now deeeeefense
February 18th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Back to back threes by the Hoyas ties the game, but Hanke’s bank shot puts the Friars back on top by two.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
11:40 to play, the score is tied at 43. Hoyas ball after the official timeout.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
The Hoyas are doing a great job on the offensive boards today. We aren’t hitting our shots, so rebounding is key. Let’s hope we can keep it up.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
critical critical shooting
February 18th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
bwaaaaaaaahhhhHh!!!!!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Rainmaker
February 18th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Back to back threes by Wallace push the Hoyas to a six point lead, 49-43. Providence uses a 30 second timeout.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
jonathon wallace…must admit prettiest look shot i’ve seen in awhile.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
ooooh, half way down for tyler’s three
February 18th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
wow, we almost turned it over 4 times there,a dn then we get a three. now d em up
February 18th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
thats not a travel, their guy just dragged roy down
February 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
does the dunkin donuts center have a magic swtitch so they can shut off the shot clock so their coach can talk to their players without using a time out? verizon shouldget one of those
February 18th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
summers still real short on that 12 footer
February 18th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
7:14 left in the game, Hoyas up 52-46, with DaJuan Summers shooting two free throws.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
That three really hurt us. Summers had a chance to push the lead to 11, now its back to six. These are key free throws. Need them both to keep the pressure on.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
d em up
February 18th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
cant keep trading twos for threes tho
February 18th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
close one there, forget it and just make the fts
February 18th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
that wasa travel
February 18th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
i love it how all the announcers say syracuse is on the bubble every year. gimmea break…….nice steal by pat!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
Come on Hoyas, a few more stops and let’s close them out.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
DaJuan Summers now has four fouls, only two on the team in the second. Efejuku makes both to cut the lead to nine.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
THATS HOW YOU BREAK THE PRESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
February 18th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
thats cheating coach was calling timeout that whole time tyler was trapped
February 18th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Four minute timeout, Georgetown leads by 11. Providence ball with 3:36 left in the game.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Let’s put them away Hoyas
February 18th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
nice hoyas, run clock
February 18th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
why does nd have 3 fewer games played than us?
February 18th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
nice come from behind hoyas, we answered and answered strong. now lets win against cincy!!
February 18th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
we made som fts in the second half, but overall still not encouraging frmo the line.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Anyone notice earlier the PC fans chanting “Hibbert Sucks.”
I wish I could suck as badly as Roy
February 18th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
The Hoyas will dribble out the clock, and walk away from Dunkin Donuts Center with a 68-58 win over Providence. The Hoyas now have the rest of the week off. Next game is Saturday against Cincinnati at Verizon Center.
February 18th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
i wanna just say one thing. All the damn syracuse announcers are such homers. and Doris Burke went to Providence and it would be easy to show some favoritism. but i thought she did a real good job of being impartial. props to her.
February 18th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Doris Burke is a pretty good analyst. Sean McDonough although a pretty good play by play guy is one of the top ten examples of nepotism in th world of sports announcing.
February 18th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Good steals throughout the game by Ewing but what’s with this 2 giant steps and an off balance underhanded layup attempt? I much prefer his strong drive and reverse dunk late in the game.
February 18th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Anyone have any idea why no Jesse Sapp for much of the second half?
February 18th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
was thinking the same thing re: Sapp. Was he shaken up earlier in the game or did he just stay on the bench since things were going smoothly enough without him?
Also, who to root for tonight in ‘Cuse v. Louisville?
February 18th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
never root for Syracuse but if they win, good for us! Just a note, they never win when we want them to.
February 20th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Sorry to contradict Big A, but I was cheering for the Cuse in an early NCAA tournament game when they played the Maryland Terps. It came down to the final possession and Boeheim had my hopes in his hands. Not a pleasant feeling, but MD lost and I think the Cuse lost in the next round.
