- Louisville won their first game of the Big East Tournament, beating Providence 73-55 in a turnover-riddled affair. The two teams combined for 46 turnovers, but the Cardinals eventually pulled away behind Earl Clark’s 24 points.
- Villanova needed a last second shot to beat Marquette, winning 76-75. With his team down one, Reggie Reynolds found a wide open Dwayne Anderson under the basket, whose lay-up bounced around before dropping through the hoop as time expired. The Wildcats led by 16 at halftime, but the Golden Eagles clawed back into the game, taking a one point lead on a Lazar Haywood three pointer with a minute and a half to play. A couple of empty trips for each team set up the dramatic finish. The Louisville-Villanova will tip-off at 7:00 PM tonight.
- The West Virginia Mountaineers beat Pittsburgh 74-70 to move into the semi-finals. West Virginia was led by Devin Ebank’s 20 points, and the Mountaineers solidified their case for an NCAA Tournament bid. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, will now have to wait to see if they can still claim a #1 seed. The loss also means the Panthers will not be in the final game only the second time in the past nine seasons.
- Syracuse outlasted Connecticut 127-117 in sextuple overtime to win what will go down in history as one of the best Big East Tournament games ever. The Orange thought they had won in regulation, but after video review Eric Devendorf’s last second shot was deemed to still be in his fingertips as the horn went off. As a result, Big East fans were treated to another hour and a half of basketball as neither team would quit. Syracuse had not had the lead in the first five overtimes, but then exploded in the sixth to win by ten, as the Huskies ran out of gas. The Orange must now face a West Virginia team who did not play the equivalent of 1.75 basketball games last night. That will be the 9:00 game.
