South Florida In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody. Johnny here at Verizon Center again. It comes as no surprise, but with half an hour to go until the opening tipoff, there are a lot less fans and significantly less security as there was on Saturday.
But even though the President isn’t here, this South Florida team should not be overlooked. USF is coming off of three straight conference victories, most recently beating then #17 Pitt.
I’ll be checking in with updates throughout, but for now, here’s what I know:
- The refs tonight are going to be John Cahill, Wally Rutecki, and Clarence Armstrong.
- The Hoyas will be starting the usual five – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
- The USF Bulls are set to start Howard, Jones, Famous, Fitzpatrick, and Mercer.

Time for the Anthem and lineups, and the Phone Booth is empty. What’s really surprising is the lack of students.

USF win the tip and on their first possession, they get a layup

Austin Freeman gets the Hoyas started with a runner. 2-2
February 3rd, 2010 at 7:10 pm
At the 15:06 mark we have the first foul of the game (Austin) and it’s the official timeout, Hoyas up 9-6.

February 3rd, 2010 at 7:47 pm
That’s the end of the first half. Hoyas up 35-26. Greg has 14 and 8.

With the Bulls starting the half on a 9-4 run, JTIII needs a timeout only leading by 4.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:22 pm
With 12:28 to play, the Bulls have tied it up.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:25 pm
We look out of it….Everyone is playing slow and not making their cuts.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:28 pm
Nice Monroe
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:28 pm
Really Jones?
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:32 pm
We need a little spurt….Defense….Defense
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:33 pm
9 straight points by USF and they lead the Hoyas 52-44 with under 8 minutes to play.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:38 pm
Johnny did you get the fans fired up?
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:41 pm
???????
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:41 pm
We need Wright or Freeman to take over.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:45 pm
The fans are getting fired up on their own.
I think the added defense is helping.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Make those FT Monroe.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:47 pm
So far Monroe is 0-3 from the line. He’s missed two and-one opportunities, and he missed the first of a two shot trip, but there was an offensive violation on his second shot.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:49 pm
But he made those two. Hoyas down two with under four minutes to play.

February 3rd, 2010 at 8:52 pm
Greg Monroe fouled out on what looked like a clean block. He had 21 points.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:52 pm

February 3rd, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Haven’t heard much from Vaughn tonight… He better step up.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Jarrid Famous has just fouled out for the Bulls. Austin to shoot two to potentially cut the lead to three.
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:57 pm
FT?????
February 3rd, 2010 at 8:58 pm
With 1:19 to play, the BUlls have extended the lead to 8.
February 3rd, 2010 at 9:02 pm
The way these teams are shooting their foul shots, the Hoyas still have a shot at this one, down 5 with 36.5 seconds to go.
February 3rd, 2010 at 9:03 pm
what a joke- way to show up Hoyas
February 3rd, 2010 at 9:10 pm
That’ll do it. Hoyas drop this one to the South Florida Bulls 64-72. DOminique Jones ends up with 29 points and taunts the Hoya Student Section.
