Congratulations Patrick

By Hoya Hoops

So Patrick Ewing is finally getting into the Hall of Fame tonight. If you want to see the ceremony, it will be displayed live on NBA TV and ESPN Classic tonight at 7:30 PM.

In honor of Pat’s big day, we’ve decided to have some fun with you all. Write a hoyku about Patrick Ewing and post it in the comments. Here’s ours, taken from Tony’s favorite Patrick memory.

The ref can’t reach it
The ball is stuck in the net
Patrick saves the day

Congratulation to Patrick and to whoever comes up with the best poem.

Hoyku

By Hoya Hoops

Alright, for the first edition of Hoya Hoops’ Game Time, we’ll be writing Hoykus, poetry about the beauty of Georgetown Basketball. But before we get to explaining the rules, here is an excerpt from the classic television show Cheers:

Sam: Oh, come on Diane, writing poetry is easy. All it has to do is rhyme.
Diane: Sam, it doesn’t have to rhyme.
Sam: Even easier!

With that in mind, it’s time for you to put on your Japanese poetry thinking caps. Remember, it’s not a Haiku (or HOY-ku in our case) unless the first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third and final line has five syllables. Got it? 5-7-5. Here’s ours:

The longer he stays
The more likely we succeed
Long Live Jim Boeheim

Think you can do better? Post your own Hoykus in the comments.
