Georgetown @ Rutgers: 01/05/2008

| Team | 1 | 2 | T |
| Georgetown (#7) | 27 | 31 | 58 |
| Rutgers | 20 | 26 | 46 |

Johnny here at the RAC getting ready for the Hoyas’ Big East opener against the Scarlet Knights. Like Georgetown, Rutgers students are on Christmas break, so hopefully this place won’t get as loud as it is known to get.
There’s some pregame bad news for the Hoyas: Chris Wright will not be dressed today as I hear he rolled his ankle. I don’t know the severity of the injury, but I don’t think it should be cause for too much concern.
Here are your starting lineups.
For the Hoyas, it’s the same as last week: Wallace, Summers, Freeman, Sapp, and Hibbert.
For the Knights: Farmer, Pettis, Inman, Coburn, and Griffin.
The board here at the RAC actually says that #11 is starting for the Hoyas, but I believe that is probably a mistake, and so I threw in that it would be Summers instead of Jansen.

January 5th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
That’s no good. I hope it’s not too serious. I don’t want us to be plagued by injuries like some other Big East teams.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Freeman starting again! Does Rutgers play a small lineup. I thought that was the reason behind Patrick not starting against Fordham
January 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
That’s a small Rutgers lineup without Ndiaye.
Thanks for the report on Wright.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
The Hoyas just came out for layup lines to a nice reaction from the crowd. Seems like a lot of Hoyas made it out to New Jersey. Or they’re here from Christmas break.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
lets go hoyas, start the big east season off with a nice win
January 5th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Lets Go Ho-Yas
January 5th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
johnny, masn’s still showing the end of the syracuse game, have we tipped off yet?
January 5th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
So the boards here were wrong, for both teams. As mentioned, Summers was starting and not Jansen.
Also for Rutgers N’Diaye will be starting in place of Inman.
And based on the announcement of the starting lineups, Hoya fans outnumber those for the home team
January 5th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Tip off just went to the Knights, and they missed a driving layup.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
After N’Diaye’s dunk, Sapp responds with a tre, Hoyas winning 3-2 after a minute and a half.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Hibbert also picked up his first foul
January 5th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
summers has to be stronger with the rebound
January 5th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
nice defense so far
January 5th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
haha oops, not there
January 5th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
thats too easy for them
January 5th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
haha and thats too easy for wallace, nice shot
January 5th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Teams head into the 16 minute timeout tied at 8. Macklin and Rivers set to check in.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
MASN’s game coverage started with 18:24 left in the first half. We had to watch free throws in SYR 11-pt win over USF. Official network of the Hoyas?
January 5th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
gotta do better on the boards, too many easy points for them
January 5th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Hibbert and Sapp are returning and Ewing is checking in for the first time
January 5th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
big one there for pj
January 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Love that backdoor
January 5th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
nice backdoor that time, after a few failed attempts
January 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Rutgers up by 1 at the 8 minute timeout, and the Scarlet Knights fans are getting a little louder. Might have to do with the fact that Rutgers is beating Ball State in their bowl game. Or it could just be due to the blaring PA announcer.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
how can you not call a foul ther??
January 5th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I went to Gonzaga many years ago, and I never thought I’d say it about a Dematha kid, but HOW SMART IS FREEMAN. He was trying to get it to Summers on the break, couldn’t find the angle, so waited and set him up for a layup. Great play, right after he made a 3PT too! Keep it up!
January 5th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
3:35 remaining in the half, Hoyas by 6, 24-18.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
they are running down the clock, thats strange, isnt it?
January 5th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
With 30 seconds in the half and 29 on the shot clock, Georgetown uses their first half timeout
January 5th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
After 19:30 with only one personal foul, Rutgers picks up three in the next 20 seconds.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I love Jonathan Wallace.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
Cheap tricks don’t work against good teams. Wallace at the buzzer.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
you leave our best shooter that wide open?? craziness, nice shot by wallace
January 5th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
good end to a shaky half
January 5th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Hoyas lead by 7, 27-20 at the half. Hibbert has two personal fouls, but other than that, no foul trouble.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hoyas up by seven at the half. It was not the prettiest half for the Hoyas, but they did well to end the half. Hopefully, the Hoyas will be able to build on the lead. Hibbert is the only Hoya in any sort of foul trouble with 2. Georgetown started the game feeding to Hibbert, we will see if they pound it inside to start the second half as well.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Look for better execution in Vespers half…GU below 48% FG in first half.
January 5th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Rutgers provided the most inane display of using their fouls to give. Only the first half, got at least one of their players with 2 fouls and gave us an open three to end the half.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Roy’s moving away from the basket too much. Enough with the hook, go to the rim.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
After Freeman’s three, Rutgers needs a timeout down 10
January 5th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Loooong three for Freeman forces Rutgers to call a 30, it get stretched to a full timeout.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
The officiating has GOT to change with people covering Big Roy. Just because he’s taller than everybody trying to guard him the defenders get carte blance to push, hold, tug, trip, slap, and anything else they can think of. It is unacceptable.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
nice steal for wallace
January 5th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Sapp just reached double digits, and the Hoyas stretched their lead to 13 at the 16 minute timeout.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Are these on-site posts by laptop, phone, PDA?
January 5th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
@DFW
I have a laptop at the game. Not sure about any other on-site posters.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Roy is back to using his hook, now he should take a few face-up jumpers in the lane. Then use a pump fake occassional. i.e. start using his whole repertoire
January 5th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Patrick just made his 2nd three of the game, who up till today had only made 3 all season.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
refs must have realized they didnt call enough fouls in first, they are calling ticky tack stuff now
January 5th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Roy’s gotta take that shot. Just missed, but that’s okya
January 5th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
hoyas starting to struggle now, turnovers and poor shot selection, need to settle down
January 5th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
That’s the second or third time that Roy’s dove on the floor for a loose ball.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Seems like the RUT guards are penetrating into the paint a little too easily, even against the GU zone. These guys aren’t even that quick, relatively speaking.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
yeah, great hustle and effort from roy, he’s gotta do just a little better on offense though, he’s settling for the hook shot a little too much today
January 5th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
DJ on Big Roy - No fouls coming…no point in going to the rack.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Wallace’s 3 puts him into double figures. That makes three Hoyas with 10 or more.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
bout time for Summers from 3
January 5th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
thats a really horrible charge call
January 5th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
That offensive foul is #6 for the Hoyas.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
come on hoyas, settle it down, take care of the ball
January 5th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Rutgers fans are getting loud here as Hoya mistakes are leading to a Rutgers come back.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
clutch
January 5th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
But Freeman’s basket and foul brought the Hoya fans back in it, and they’re pretty loud too.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
great recognition by Freeman to take it to the hoop
January 5th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Good job by the freshman to settle the team down…Freeman and 1, plus the flagrant display of emotion- small fist pump!
January 5th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Some Hoya fans are trying to start an impromptu rendition of “Hey, Baby!”
January 5th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
What was biggest lead for Hoyas? 17 maybe?
January 5th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Also looks like a Hoya young alum convinced the drummer for Rutgers’ Alum Pep Band (filling in for the missing students) to start playing Eye of the Tiger so Hoya fans can chant “Roy Roy Roy”
January 5th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
@Tony: Yep 47-30 after Summers’ 3.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Hibbert missed both free throws, but Rutgers has 7 fouls, so everybody will be shooting here on out.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Roy really struggling at the line. those two weren;t even close
January 5th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
And Roy just picked up two quick fouls to put his total to 4. He’s going to the bench and Macklin is stepping in.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
bogus foul there on roy, puts them back on the line
January 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Rutgers is struggling from the line too.. yuck
January 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
fortunately, tehy are worse at fts than we are
January 5th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Mac’s got to step up from the line
January 5th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Rutgers did a good job scouting us, fouling Macklin once he touches the ball. Backfired a little as Vernon made one
January 5th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Vernon’s made free throw brought about some standing applause from Hoya fans.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Mack will go back to the line, shooting two this time. 2 shots throughout for both teams now.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
again, rebounding a big concern for this team, we have to work on getting some boards
January 5th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Joynes’ 3rd foul means all of their big men, Joynes, Inman, and Ndiaye all have 3 personals.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
hey, johnny, i think with 3 minutes left, fouls arent gonna be an issue, thanks for the info though
January 5th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Lots of work to be done for GU…uncharachteristic dumb turnovers today…can’t give teams that really struggle to score easy chances
January 5th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
big 3 from Summers
January 5th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Game’s under control, let’s see if Rutgers send us to the line
January 5th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
come on boys, lets make some free throws now, put the game on ice
January 5th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
why foul??
January 5th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
There’s the final score, 58-46 Hoyas, who are now 1-0 in conference play.
January 5th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
solid win, not a great performance, but a 12 point win , nice work fellas, clean up a few things, get more rebounds, take care of the ball. good to start the big east with a w.
