After an impressive mid-week win at Pittsburgh and two days before a prime-time showdown against the Orange in Syracuse, the Georgetown Hoyas easily could have overlooked Saturday’s match-up against Rutgers. They didn’t.
The Hoyas were sharp from the outset, using a first half, in which they shot 60% from the field, to open a 17 point lead. Through the first 20 minutes, Greg Monroe scored 14 points and made all seven of his attempts, Chris Wright made four of five three pointers, and Austin Freeman added nine points including a three pointer with two seconds left to send Georgetown into the locker room with a 46-29 advantage.
In the second half, the game was never closer than 16 points, as Coach Thompson got an opportunity to give his bench players more minutes. Hollis Thompson scored eight points and Henry Sims added five points to help the Hoyas to a 88-63 victory and improve to 6-2 in Big East play.
The additional bench minutes were helpful as Georgetown faces a quick turnaround. The team heads to Syracuse for a Big Monday matchup on ESPN, with the tip-off against the Orange at 7 PM.
