Team | 1 | 2 | T |
South Florida | 24 | 29 | 53 |
Georgetown (#6) | 27 | 36 | 63 |
It was an unimpressive effort put forth at Verizon Center, but the Georgetown Hoyas still managed to defeat the South Florida Bulls 63-53. The Bulls were the agressor from the outset, as they got off to a dream start to lead by as many as 10 points in the opening minutes. South Florida would have been ahead by even more had it not been for DaJuan Summers. Summers scored a career-high 24 points, including the first 11 for Georgetown, to keep the Hoyas within reach. Jessie Sapp made a transition three-pointer midway through the first half to give the Hoyas the lead which they did not relinquish.
Throughout the last 25 minutes of the game, Georgetown gradually pulled away, but the Bulls were always within striking distance. Dominique Jones led the Bulls with 15 points. Despite the strong effort by South Florida, they ended up losing their ninth game in a row, while the Hoyas have now won their last six games. Georgetown remains in first place in the Big East with a conference record of 9-1. The Hoyas travel to Louisville for their next game, this Saturday at 9:00 pm.
