For the second time in three years, the Old Dominion Monarchs walked off the floor of McDonough Gymnasium victorious, handing the Hoyas their first defeat of the season. The game was played despite a snow storm that blew through the East Coast, blanketing the DC Metro area in over a foot of snow.

The Hoyas started as cold as the Washington weather, making only three shots in the first 14 minutes of action. There was no fluidity to the offense, and Georgetown ended the first half with 11 turnovers and only six made field goals. Old Dominion led 32-21 at the break.

Georgetown did not start the second half any better, trailing by as many as 18 points. However, the Hoyas rallied, slowly clawing back into the game. The Hoyas had a chance to make it a one-point game with a minute remaining, but Greg Monroe would make only one of two free throws, and Old Dominion would score on the ensuing possession. The Hoyas would never get the ball with a chance to tie.

The Monarchs were led by Ben Finney and Trian Iliadis, who combined for 24 points and were 6-8 from beyond the arc. Greg Monroe led all scorers with 15 points, but the Hoyas did not play well enough long enough to deserve the win.

The Hoyas look to bounce back this Wednesday when the team returns to their home-away-from-home at Verizon Center. They take on Harvard at 12 PM.
