Edit: Chris Wright has tweeted that the reports circulating are not 100% correct and wishes that everyone let him handle this issue personally.
According to reports from Turkey, Hoya alum Chris Wright was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and will have to end his professional basketball career. Chris is 22 years old and has been playing with Olin Edirne Basket in Turkey since 2011.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris as he deals with this life-changing news.

The last time the Georgetown Hoyas started a game with neither Austin Freeman nor Chris Wright on the court, George W. Bush was the President of the United States, The Wire was playing on HBO, and the Florida Gators were the reigning NCAA Tournament Champions. And that was just the last time they didn’t start.
It’s only May, but we already have the first bit of news regarding the 2011-12 season. The Hoyas will be traveling to play Alabama on December 1st as a part of the Big East/SEC Challenge. The last time the two teams met was in 2007 when Georgetown won 70-60 in that year’s interconference challenge.
Recent transfer Vee Sanford has announced where he will be playing basketball next season, as he’s committed to the University of Dayton.
We at Hoya Hoops wish Vee the best as a Flyer, but we are a little upset with his decision, as it messes up our limerick.
There once was a Hoya Vee Sanford
But after two seasons he transferred.
Had a great hi-top fade,
In games, seldom played.
And next year, he’s playing at Stanford Dayton.
Tomorrow is Commencement Day for the class of 2011, so we wanted to congratulate seniors Austin Freeman, Chris Wright, Julian Vaughn, and Ryan Dougherty as well as managers C.J. Ciarrocchi and Ray Moss. Have fun at Senior Ball tonight guys!
[Update: GUHoyas.com has just posted an article with quotes from the seniors – Six Members of Men’s Basketball Program to Earn Degrees on Saturday
And today is the birthday of two Hoyas who have gone on to have careers in the NBA – Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje and Patrick Ewing, Jr. While Pat’s Hornets have been knocked out of the NBA Playoffs, Ruben is in the semi-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga in Germany, and his Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck trail the series 0-1 to Brose Baskets Bamberg.
After the press conferences this afternoon, the Hoyas had an open practice at the United Center, and a Chicago-based Hoya Hoops reader was there to keep an eye on Chris Wright and even shoot a short video.
Here’s what he had to say about #4:
I attended the Hoyas open practice today, and kept a close eye on Chris Wright. He looked good. He did not seem to be hindered by the hand at all. His shooting was uneven (maybe 60-70%), but he had a few spells where he made a number of shots in a row.

Today in Chicago, Coach Thompson and senior captains Chris Wright and Austin Freeman talked to the media about starting up the NCAA Tournament.
Here are some of the highlights:
Chris Wright
On how it felt practicing again and being able to play in the tournament:
It felt good to try to end my career on the court and kind of control our own destiny. You know, one thing that we said beginning of the season is that we want to try to create — finish with our own legacy and not be remembered for the people before us and hopefully not after us. So it feels good that in some ways I can control that, and I love to play basketball. So it feels good to be on the court. More »
#Hoya News: Chris Wright has been cleared to play. 1st ‘full’ practice will be Mon. Good for Ncaa Tourney.
Chris coming back for the tourney is good news for the Hoyas, but since he will most likely not be 100%, this week’s worth of practices are extremely important for everyone on the roster.

Yesterday, the Big East announced the 2010-11 all-conference teams, and Austin Freeman was named to the All-Big East First Team. Chris Wright was also honored, being named to the All-Big East Third Team.
Ben Hansbrough was the only unanimous decision to make the First Team, meaning one of the coaches didn’t pick Kemba Walker to make the cut. For the rookies, DePaul’s Cleveland Melvin was the only unanimous decision.
After the game, here’s what Coach Thompson, Jason Clark, and seniors Austin Freeman and Chris Wright had to say:

Georgetown:
The Hoyas suffered a serious setback, having one of their worst offensive nights in recent memory and losing to Cincinnati 58-46. At first glance, it seemed like this game couldn’t have been worse for Georgetown. The loss at home dropped the team back into the very crowded middle of the pack in Big East play, which was painful enough, but the manner in which the team lost made it even worse, as they couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn in the second half. Add to that the potential season-ending injury to senior leader and floor general Chris Wright, and this was an all around bad night. But, surprisingly, there are a few positives coming out of the game.
