- The Georgetown Hoyas defeated the William and Mary Tribe in the season opener by a score of 68 to 53. Roy Hibbert led all scorers with 23 points. Here is the Game Page for Saturday’s victory
- USC, ranked 18 in the AP Top 25, lost to Mercer, joining #20 Kentucky as ranked teams that lost in their first week of play. Kentucky was defeated by Gardner-Webb last Wednesday.
- In NBA news, Jeff Green had two good nights, scoring 19 and 17 points in close losses to Utah and Detroit respectively. In both games Green was the second leading scorer on the Sonics behind Durant, who had 20 and 19 points in those games. However, Green’s field goal percentage was much higher, shooting 12-22 over the two game stretch versus Durant’s 14-41.
