Toughness

By Mike

Tyler Crawford started his first and only game as a Hoya in the 2006-07 season opener against Hartford. What many people remember about that game, if anything, is that Tyler went 1-8 from three point land. But, look a little closer and you will see the real Tyler Crawford. The first five minutes or so of that game, for me at least, summarizes his career. Tyler had 2 steals, 4 rebounds - one of them offensive - and a foul. That is the essence of Tyler Crawford.

The word I would use is toughness. He exudes it. He inspires it in others. He demands it of his teammates. It’s more likely Tyler’s first impact on a game will be a foul rather than a basket, but for old school Georgetown fans, Tyler is our type of player. Who else but a true old-school Hoya would get a technical foul in a 50 point game? His defense against his opponents is matched only by his defense of his teammates. He is there to protect his brothers, fight for them, and keep them safe. He knows that Roy’s fouls are more valuable than his own and Crawford is not afraid to use them.

TC will never be considered an all-time Hoya great. His numbers are too modest, his minutes too scarce. However, if you are talking about pure hustle, intensity, and toughness, there is no doubt Tyler Crawford would be near the top of anyone’s list.

I shared with you one of my favorite Tyler Crawford moments. What are some memories that stand out the most for you?

i dont think this counts as a favorite moment, but have you ever seen tyler? this guy is jacked, he must be in the weight room every second he’s not on the court, cause he is ripped. its no surpirse he’s one of the toughest guys we’ve ever had. do what you do, tc, let’s get a win on saturday!

I agree completely about Tyler’s toughness. As an old timer I would say Perry McDonald, a boxer and basketball player, was maybe the toughest hoya ever.

Technically Alonzo was the toughest, but if we have a non-NBA category I’m OK with Perry McDonald. My personal favorite is Michael Graham, he was a pioneer of tough-aggressive-intimidating-violent-looking players. He did stuff about 10-15 years before it became mainstreem.

I always feel calmed when Tyler comes in because I know that he is a great defensive player and is really well-disciplined out on the court. As I often say on the in-game thread, I love Tyler Crawford! He will definitely be missed next season.

One of my all time favorite Houyas no doubt. Just met him the other day, fine young man.
