Maryland Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The long-awaited Georgetown vs. Maryland regular season meeting was 15 years in the making, and it was over in 15 minutes. The Hoyas executed from the outset, scoring on several backdoors in the first few minutes. Greg Monroe made a basket to put Georgetown up 19-8, and the lead never got back to single digits the rest of the way, with the Hoyas leading by 18 points at the break, 38-20.

Maryland In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, we’re about half an hour away from the biggest game of the Old Spice Classic. No, I’m not talking about the Championship. That’s later on between Tennessee and Gonzaga. First up is the third place game between Georgetown and Maryland, a local rivalry that is plagued by the lack of competitions. The last game was eight years ago in the NCAA Tournament, and this game, clearly, was not scheduled either.

I’m courtside at the Milk House for the last time of the tournament. I realized I never put up a picture of the arena. Here’s what the place looks like from outside. Actually, that’s what it looked like on Thursday. Today, it’s been very rainy and there have been tornado sightings somewhere nearby.

Anyway, keep your in-game thoughts coming in the comments, and I’ll provide whatever info I have for you.

Offense vs. Defense

By Hoya Hoops

Our last Pregame Predictions asked you to pick the leading scorer for the Hoyas in their game against Tennessee. Sami got the answer exactly right, predicting that Chris Wright would lead the team with 18 points. He did just that. Well done, Sami.

As you know, the Hoyas take on the Terps tomorrow in what may turn out to be one of the most highly anticipated third-place game in the history of the Old Spice Classic. It will be a battle between the Georgetown defense and the Maryland offense. Here is our question:

What will be the total number of points scored?

Our guess is the Georgetown defense will keep the game in the high fifties or low sixties, so we say 120. Your guess? Put it in the comments.

It’s What the People Want

By Hoya Hoops

Georgetown University is 12 miles away from the University of Maryland, but the two schools have been separated by more than miles when it comes to playing each other during the regular season. Now, 850 miles south of the nation’s capital, the Hoyas and the Terps are ready to meet for only the third time since the 1980 NCAA Tournament semifinal. Supporters of both programs have always clamored to have the two teams play more often, and now at last, the fans have what they want every season, a head to head meeting. The two best teams in the Metro area will meet in the Third Place game of the Old Spice Classic, but as far as basketball fans in the Baltimore-Washington area are concerned the only game that matters is the consolation game. The loser will collect their second loss in a row, the winner will return home with a 2-1 record from the tournament in Orlando, but more importantly will hold the bragging rights until the next time the teams meet, which most likely will not be any time soon.

Tennessee In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, Johnny here from the court of the Milk House in Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The teams are warming up as the semifinal game is set to tipoff in about ten minutes between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgetown Hoyas.

After defeating the Wichita State Shockers yesterday, 58-50, the Hoyas are preparing themselves for the Big East Tournament with this one-day turnaround against excellent competition. This Tennessee team is ranked #12 in both polls and looked very impressive in their Old Spice opener against Siena.

I’ll fill everyone in with the starting lineups and any information I can give you from my vantage point. Add your own thoughts in the comment.
