Team | 1 | 2 | T |
Villanova | 29 | 24 | 53 |
Georgetown (#8) | 28 | 27 | 55 |
It was another incredible finish as the Hoyas defeated the Villanova Wildcats for the first time in the Verizon Center with the final score of 55-53. After a defensive stop on the final possession, Jonathan Wallace was fouled and made two free throws with 0.1 seconds remaining to give the Hoyas their 18th straight home victory. Their last loss in Chinatown was at the hands of Villanova last season.
It was fitting that this game ended at the foul line as there were 48 fouls called and 51 free throws attempted on the night. Sloppy play characterized the game as Georgetown committed 18 turnovers and Villanova committed 11.
Jonathan Wallace led the Hoyas in scoring with 15 points and 3 three-pointers. Scottie Reynolds led all scoring as he put up 24 points in the losing effort.
The Hoyas’ next two games are on the road where they will face another Saturday - Monday turnaround. Saturday’s game is at the Carrier Dome at noon.
