Hey all, this is Johnny checking in. We’re half an hour away from tipoff and the Hoyas face a big challenge against one of the toughest teams in the Big East in Marquette. With postseason implications on the line, both teams will be giving their all, and it has the potential of being a classic game.
I’ll check in later with starting lineups and in-game commentary. And you can provide your own commentary below.
March 1st, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Two more games left, let’s close it out strong
March 1st, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Anyone watching the Duke game? It looks like it’s gonna run over our game, and that intentinoal call was absurd. boo duke
March 1st, 2008 at 1:57 pm
I’m watching the Duke game. And I’ve turned on Chvotkin.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Starters for Georgetown will be the same as the beginning of the year: Wallace, Summers, Sapp, Ewing, and Hibbert. Freeman is on the bench with a rolled ankle, but he may play. We’ll have to see how much, but he is dressed.
For Marquette: James, Matthews, McNeal, Hayward, and Barro.
And for other scores, check out what happened in Syracuse: a complete letdown.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Come on Hoyas, let’s go!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Hibbert wins the tip and Roy scores after two offensive rebounds on the first possession. 2-0 Hoyas.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Thompson calls a timeout with the Hoyas trailing 10-8 early on.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Chvotkin said Pitt won by 1, but they really won by 5 I think.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:15 pm
A couple more baskets and it’s now the 16:00 timeout, Hoyas trailing, 12-10 with 14:03 in the first half.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Duke just won on a horrible last few possessions by NC State. Hopefully CBS will get our game going now
March 1st, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Even if they go to their commercial break on CBS, it should be okay, because the Hoyas are at that first TV timeout.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Freeman to check in for the first time today as we restart play.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Back!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:19 pm
garbage! not only do we miss the start of our game but Duke comes back to win
March 1st, 2008 at 2:24 pm
12 minute timeout, Hoyas trailing by 5, 17-12.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Come on Hoyas, you’re playing sloppy
March 1st, 2008 at 2:28 pm
no one looks at the shotclock during timeouts?
March 1st, 2008 at 2:28 pm
That’s foul #2 Mbakwe for Marquette.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:29 pm
Ewing strips Marquette, gets on the floor, and calls timeout. That’s already the Hoyas’ 2nd timeout of the first half.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:31 pm
That’s now the 3rd foul on Mbakwe and Hibbert is going to the line for two.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Nice work Rivers. I like it when he steps in from 3. He can hit that short jumper a lot better.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:33 pm
So unfortunate!!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:35 pm
So my foul count seems to have been off, not 3 on Mbakwe. And now I’m confused as to who got the call I missed.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:37 pm
both espn and yahoo show no-one on Marquete with even 2 fouls
March 1st, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Another two missed free throws for Marquette. They’re 1-7.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:39 pm
There’s the first three of the game for either team, and the Hoyas are back down 5.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Rivers hits a three, then gets called for a foul. Second time he’s fallen to the floor but hopped up for more defense. This time he was a bit too aggressive.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:43 pm
thank you wallace1!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Marquette stretches to their biggest lead of 8, but Wallace answers with a three to make it 28-23
March 1st, 2008 at 2:44 pm
wow nice work vern!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Four minute timeout, Hoyas down 28-25 with 2:26 to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Nice. Illegal screen
March 1st, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Too many stupid turnovers!!
March 1st, 2008 at 2:53 pm
not a very good half but at least we’re not behind by 18 like at Syracuse
March 1st, 2008 at 2:54 pm
That’s the end of the half. Marquette’s winning 32-28.
March 1st, 2008 at 2:56 pm
for those watching on tv I like to go on record to say I would rather attend coach J’s camp than Coach K’s camp.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Marquette starts the second half with the ball, and they get a bucket on the first possession in the “vespers half”
March 1st, 2008 at 3:12 pm
That’s the second time today where Marquette has a fast break, DaJuan does a great job hustling back on defense to force a miss, and no one helps so Marquette gets the rebound and points.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Jump ball?? I don’t even understand tat one.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:15 pm
Nice work ROY!!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Rivers travelled there!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:17 pm

March 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Tie game 35-35 at the 16:00 timeout
March 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Pay attention Hoyas
March 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Tom Crean calls a timeout, his Golden Eagles leading the Hoyas by 3, 40-37.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Come on Hoyas, turn it around.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Down by 9, the Hoyas take a timeout trailing 46-37 with 12:51 to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:33 pm

March 1st, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Nice work Hoyas
March 1st, 2008 at 3:41 pm
offensive foul!1!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Marquette calls a timeout as their 11 point lead is now down to 5. Hoyas ball when we get back, trailing 50-45.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm
And that offensive foul on Barro was not only his 4th, but Marquette’s 6th. So everyone will be shooting here on out.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:49 pm
That was a nice easy press break
March 1st, 2008 at 3:50 pm
need the freethrows!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:51 pm
horrible!!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:51 pm
thank you patrick
March 1st, 2008 at 3:52 pm
What a horrible call. Great defense and now they get two free points
March 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Wallace fouled on a long three so he’ll be shooting big freethrows right now with the Hoyas down 5.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Two of three for J-Wal, and the Hoyas trail 55-52 with a little under five minutes to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:55 pm
nice board pat
March 1st, 2008 at 3:56 pm
Patrick’s two free throws bring the score to 55-54 with 4:19 left in the ballgame.
March 1st, 2008 at 3:56 pm
YESS
March 1st, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Come on Hoyas. Great defense these last few minutes, now keep it up!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:00 pm
YES!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Amazing backdoor! wow.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:01 pm
How did that not fall?
March 1st, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Barro fouls out with four points. And Patrick goes to the line for two more FTs
March 1st, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Pat goes 1 for 2 from the line. Tie score with 2:39 to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
This is getting ridiculous. When was the last time they made a field goal?
March 1st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Miscommunication there by the Hoyas leads to their 21st turnover, and now they’re back on defense down 1.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Hoyas down two and Coach Thompson wants to talk it over.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:10 pm
How was that not a foul?? Hibbert was hammered down there!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Roy makes a basket among three or four Golden Eagles. There’s no call, so it’s a tie game with under a minute to play. Marquette calls timeout.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:12 pm
WHAT FOUL!!!!!!???
March 1st, 2008 at 4:12 pm
James misses a long three, Burke gets a putback dunk and was fouled.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:13 pm
He misses the free throw, Hoyas down two.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:13 pm
And no foul there? This is unbelieveable. We almost turned it over!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Thompson calls a timeout with 23.0 to go down two 61-59. No timeouts left for Georgetown.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:15 pm
They call a block as Ewing’s finger roll fails to fall. He’ll be shooting two with 11.1 to tie the game.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:15 pm
The refs waited to call it to see if the shot went in. They needed to do that on the last play.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Ewing makes the first, misses the second, and the Hoyas foul Matthews down 1 with 7.9 to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Matthew hits them both.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Wallace fouled shooting three with 2.8 to go down three.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:18 pm
WOW!!!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Made the first.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Made the second, and Marquette uses its last timeout. Wallace has one free throw to tie the game with 2.8 seconds remaining.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:19 pm
I can’t take this. Oh gosh.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:20 pm
He makes the third. Tie game. No timeouts.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Length of the court pass is out of bounds off the Hoyas. 1.5 seconds on their side of the court.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Inbound deflected, long distance shot is off the mark, and we’re going to overtime.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:22 pm
I can start breathing again. Whew.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:23 pm
As Wallace’s last freethrow was rattling around, Ewing had the inside path to the hoop and had his hand right next to the rim. If it rolled out, he could have won it, but Wallace’s shot fell, and we’re going to OT.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Jump ball makes it Hoyas’ ball with 3 seconds on the shot clock.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Whoa! haha
March 1st, 2008 at 4:28 pm
big rebound pat!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm
How did that shot not fall in?
March 1st, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Marquette kick resets clock to 15 with 56.1 to go.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:33 pm
1 free throw from Roy makes it 69-66 Georgetown with under a minute to play.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:34 pm
That’s alright. Good defense Hoyas. Inbound the ball, don’t turn it over, and make your free throws. I don’t want us to be like Syracuse.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Wallace makes one freethrow to push the lead to two with 9.1 seconds to go. He’s got one left.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Come on Wallace
March 1st, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Hoyas come up with a steal and win by 2.
March 1st, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win! Hoyas win!
March 1st, 2008 at 4:41 pm
As I said at the top of the post, this had the potential of being a classic, and I think that this most certainly qualifies. The Hoyas had a lot of turnovers, but their defense and free throws won this game.
Guess how many field goals Marquette had in the last 18 minutes of the game? 2. The put back dunk with 31 seconds in regulation and the put back layup with 17 seconds left in overtime. I guess the Hoyas need to work on defensive rebounds on crucial plays down the stretch, but you can’t blame the defense for letting 0 field goals for a 12 minute stretch of the second half.
